How do we even know the bible is true?
Did Jesus ever come out and say this exact collection of scriptures is the word of God?

Jesus didn't leave us a Bible, he left us a church.

But basically the OT canon is pretty well agreed on with the Septuagint. We also have the books that Jesus and the Apostles cited. The New Testament is basically a compilation of what the church fathers recited during liturgy. "Apocryphal" works are religious texts you read at home and not during church services.

>>17833378 (OP) You need to read the Bible understanding that it is the perspective of the Prophets and of the Apostles. This way you'll understand why they said that Jesus told them to buy a sword. They couldn't get Jesus at the time. Only later they could figure out Jesus. That's why they thought Jesus told them to do something 100% contrary to his teachings.

The Prophets talk of God as if he had human imperfections in the Old Testament, so, that God in the Old Testament is OBVIOUSLY a projection they made. God is Love. Any doubt about that?

If you have the holy spirit you will recognize the voice of the shepherd in all 66 books of the King James Bible and see the Apocrypha, Book of Enoch, Gospel of Thomas etc. as the frauds that they are. If you are not saved, you do not have a good method to determine these things.

He left us rather 50k churches: Catholics, Nestorian, Manichaean, Marcionite, Anglican, Presbyterian, all the national Orthodox churches, Maronite, St. Thomas's Indians, etc.

>How do we even know the bible is true?
We don't. The point of religion is faith over reason. The only real reason people are Christian over say, just plain Deist for example, is either a purely personal choice or because they were born into it.

So it's purely a personal choice for the enjoy hell poster to believe that I'm going to hell, and it's purely my personal choice to believe that I will and I'm going to enjoy it.

Ultimately you have to accept that the modern understanding of the Bible is a complete kludge, a dog's breakfast of misunderstandings, mistranslations, arbitrary redactions and inclusions, and inserted commentary that has been filtered through folklore.
It does not pass any requirement of academic or scholarly rigor. Clearly multiple people writing multiple things for multiple reasons.
So you either think that God has deliberately wizarded your own preferred interpretation of this literature into your head, making it inarguable divine interpretation, or you let go and admit that it's an imperfect book for imperfect people to use to commune with an unseen deity, but that your faith makes up the difference.
Of course, you also have to admit that you don't have a definitively legal leg to stand on when it comes to beefing with other people about these beliefs

Most of the New Testament was forged. There's no hard evidence Jesus was even a real person Nobody who met him wrote anything down.

>Comparison to Psalm 104
In his 1958 book Reflections on the Psalms, C. S. Lewis compared Akhnaten's Hymn to the Psalms of the Judaeo-Christian canon. James Henry Breasted noted the similarity to Psalm 104,[11] which he believed was inspired by the Hymn.[12] Arthur Weigall compared the two texts side by side and commented that "In face of this remarkable similarity one can hardly doubt that there is a direct connection between the two compositions; and it becomes necessary to ask whether both Akhnaton's hymn and this Hebrew psalm were derived from a common Syrian source, or whether Psalm CIV. is derived from this Pharaoh's original poem. Both views are admissible."[13] Lichtheim, however, said that the resemblances are "more likely to be the result of the generic similarity between Egyptian hymns and biblical psalms. A specific literary interdependence is not probable."[14] Biblical scholar Mark S. Smith has commented that "Despite enduring support for the comparison of the two texts, enthusiasm for even indirect influence has been tempered in recent decades. In some quarters, the argument for any form of influence is simply rejected outright. Still some Egyptologists, such as Jan Assmann and Donald Redford, argue for Egyptian influence on both the Amarna correspondence (especially in EA 147) and on Psalm 104."[15][16]

even secular historians are in unanimous agreement that the guy Yeshua of Nazareth existed, one could argue until they’re blue in the face about wether he was God, som of God, prophet, liar, whatever
but to say he did not exist is to deny reality

You do realize there's no such thing as unanimous agreement- especially within the humanities? There's no grand council and the very first fucking thing you learn in your first semester of college is that appeals to popularity and to authority are fallacies.

I'm not sure, for example, look at a genuinely intelligent and wide-read Christian who even mastered Greek grammar, ancient dead styles, and the most intelligent pagan writers, yet he still wrote Apocrypha, he essentially lied and with this deceived other Christians who relied on his works, in part because of his purported authority even if the writings are marked by genius nonetheless. I'm speaking about the Dionysian corpus.
