Where does the idea that Satan rules over hell come from? In reality heโs supposed to be another prisoner there, not its warden.
Even in Danteโs Inferno (which created a lot of misconceptions about hell in Christianity), heโs a prisoner at its lowest level, not the warden who presides over hell. So why do people think Satan rules over hell?
>>17834199 (OP)great. now that one schizo is going to show up babbling about the whiteness of Yahweh because you used this image

>>17834199 (OP)>Where does the idea that Satan rules over hell come from? In reality heโs supposed to be another prisoner there, not its warden.I don't have an essay prepared, but I'm under the (possibly false) impression Christian Evangelicalism fabricated that idea. If not I would, at the very least feel, comfortable blindly accusing Paul The Apostle for it since he seems to be responsible for most of the "everyone is going to die, you're all going to burn in Hell, nobody is going to make it, the end is in two more weeks, fucking repent" kind of schizophrenia turn.
>>17834199 (OP)It comes from post-Enlightenment English literature.Often it was a way to critique the Latin speaking world with it's monarchies, that they somehow saw as different from their own at the time.
>>17834199 (OP)It's both. He rules over hell the way the leader of the most powerful gang in a prison "rules" the prison.
>>17834221This is a part of it too. English protestantism was notoriously split betwen an intellectual faction associated with the conformists and anti-intellectual side the non-conformists, the people we puritans. The non-coformists began to kinda make up their own theology because they feared relying on resources they had pretty much cut off from themselves. This lead to literalism and pretty early on even in the US colonies accounts where Satan ruled hell or things closer to personalist theism or even gnosticism.
>>17834199 (OP)Friendly reminder that conflating lucifer with satan is jew devil gibberish.

>>17834199 (OP) You're right. He will descent to hell with all his followers and wrongdoers after the Day of Judgement, so say the Word of God (the Noble Quran). People think the Quran is for Muslims only. They should read it. You don't need to be a Muslim or convert to read the Word of God.

>>17834199 (OP)Satan rules over Earth currently. He wonโt be damned to hell until Judgement.
>>17834754>God decides to let the devil rule over the planet>but we shall never actually, individually, get to do anything of the sort>those that want to get to be in hell, where they would never get such opportunity either>this all while God effectively is treating Satan as an equalUhm excuse me? Why does that nerd get to wreak havoc while everyone else gets shafted with mortality and limitations and shit? Lame world, 0/10. I'm going back to MY timeline.
This idea arguably appears already in the Gospel of Nicodemus/Acts of Pilate, long before Dante, Milton, or Mohammad.
>And while all the saints were rejoicing, behold Satan the prince and chief of death said unto Hell: Make thyself ready to receive Jesus who boasteth himself that he is the Son of God
>O prince Satan, holder of the keys of hell, those thy riches which thou hadst gained by the tree of transgression and the losing of paradise, thou hast lost by the tree of the cross, and all thy gladness hath perished
I'm not sure about antecedents, but maybe it is significant that the locus classicus for "Lucifer" describes a "king" being cast into the underworld. Maybe the Devil was simply took on the attributes of Hades (see Revelation 6:8 for Hades in the NT, translated "Hell" above) for the Greeks.
