They remembered the idea about there being a God of gods, and in spite of being exiled from egypt they hung onto the idea because they believed God would eventually restore them to glory by sending a messiah to place them back upon the throne of heaven. The savior came, but he told them they are just one branch of the family tree, which makes sense because obviously any other view of it is retarded.

Who are the greater and whole Israel? That is probably one of the most important questions in the whole of theology.
