>mfw people unironically argue that the US owed France something during their Revolution/the Coalition Wars
>mfw these people suggest France didn't help us solely because the thought of a re-unified Britain with control over the entire East coast of N. America drove them to plotting another sea invasion with Spain (aka fucking madness)
>mfw amerimutts actually think France joined them because they won Saratoga
>not because France realized they were going to lose without their help and be reabsorbed into Britain somehow, giving the Brits a launching pad to take the Carribean wholesale
>mfw amerisharts don't even know how much cross-European smuggling was going on through the Carribean/America's which absolutely had to be kept out of British hands
>mfw they act like the French people who orchestrated the Revolution were the ones that intervened on their behalf against Britain
>as if it wasn't Louis and the ministers he picked from the list his daddy (based Louis XV still fucking with Britain from beyond the grave) left him

Anon, one of the factotums of the Revolution, smuggling arms and boots across the Atlantic, was Pierre Beaumarchais, the author of the Figaro operas.
The guy who financed the french intervention was Necker, a swiss protestant banker who believed in Rousseau's Social Contract and was rather happy to see the Estate-General captured by the Third Estate.
The people who went over to fight for the Revolution, like La Fayette, were active members of the french revolution.

These were people who participated in the revolutionary war and in the french revolution.

Louis himself only signed off on it because it was the cheapest way to fuck with Great Britain, yes, but that's just that.

It's not like the US could've done shit, besides financing freebooters raiding british commerce in the Americas. It's not like they would want to do shit, considering that they were a Republic and whatever the French created was totally whack and, in practice, just the Ancient Regime unchained and driven to a monstrous, mindless frenzy.

What's your point? That if one nation helps another for any reason other than purely out of the kindness of their heart they shouldn't pay their debts?

Just look at America's president. That's literally his motto. He declared bankruptcy 3 separate times, each time further enriching himself at the expense of his creditors.

You did name a bunch of cities after La Fayette, as well as your only good booze after the king. If I were French, I'd consider the debt paid
