It'd work if all Turks with nationalist sentiments got impaled.
I don't care about Islam, Istanbul, Constantinople, but the Turks are the inhibiting party of such an agreement. There couldve been a new player in the region had it not been for Turkiye being 4chan the country: brown, incel, chuddy, and jingoist.

It's too late for refunds. Turks chose half an island over rapprochement with Europe.

It worked under the Ottoman Empire. The Greek war of independence radicalised the Muslim population of the Caliphate, and sparked other nationalist movements across it. Hence the Turks became ethno-nationalists.
So paradoxically Greek independence led directly to their genocide and ethnic cleansing. Arnold Toynbee talks about this in depth

Eastern romans were romans who spoke greek you greekroach. Actual hellenic culture perished after the romans won the greco-roman wars. The modern country of greece was established in 1821 and has nothing to do with ancient greece. "Greeks" decided to abandon their actual roman identity in favor of ancient greece. Not that the romans havr a claim either, you lose a war you lose land. You win a war you gain it. But they sure are more valid in their claims than modern greece who have zero claims to anything beyond their borders. You can cope about it all you want. Facts dont care about your shitty larp

What the fuck are you talking about? Greece did not own Cyprus. Nobody recognised any Greek claims to Cypriot territory internationally. They tried to seize it by organising a coup led by Greek ultranationalists in 1974. The coup plotters installed a terrorist who had advocated for ethnic cleansing of Turkish Cypriots and union with Greece, prompting the Turkish invasion.

The Turks are on the wrong side of history on a lot of things but their complete loss of trust in the Greek Cypriots and Greeks when it came to Cyprus didn't come out of nowhere.

This doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, unless you’re biracial or something and it’s just about you and not about a larger political alignment.

By the 19th century, the Greeks as a language and as a culture were on their way out. The language was in serious jeopardy of dying out, a fact not unnoticed by the West and their contemporarily Literary Hellinization. It was one reason why the British intervened in the instability of the area in those decades. Eventually, Greek was re-solidified and local Albanians and Slavs were assimilated into speaking Greek.

What makes much more sense and which actually has historical proponents, is Slavo-Turkism. There’s like a LOT of that, and not all of it has to do with the Ottoman Empire.

Always the same "argument".
Again, "Hans", modern day greece doesnt have anything in common with ancient greece. You can pretend otherwise but deep down you know the truth. There is no connection to me made, and its embarrassing to see "greeks" claim these achievements because their shithole nation has been independent for over 2 centuries and hasnt achieved ANYTHING, not one thing of note in any field.
The coping mechanism is to steal another civilizations contributions and then project onto the ottomans and say "we wuz philosophy gods, ottomans evil barbarians no contribution, please give us more money".
And the ancient greek and modern languages arent even close to the same you fucking dumbass. Do you know a few terms like Katharevousa, Demotic?
If you prefer Greeks over Turks thats fine. But you dont know what youre talking about. So stfu you retard.
>>17842116
Okay, then lets apply your logic. The romans and greek were invaders to eastern thrace and anatolia. So, the turks did the exact thing they did. And since greeks can do no heckin wrong the turkish action cannot be wrong either.

You have it the wrong way around. Bulgaria barely ekes ahead of Turkey in QoL stats today, but under communism the differences between the two were measurably stark. Bulgaria's GDP per capita was 2x higher than Turkey's in 1987, it had also reached full electrification by the 1950s whereas Turkey's electrical grid wouldn't extend beyond its biggest population centers until the latter half of the 20th century. Anyway, I've seen that guy in another bitching about how Balkaners supposedly blame Turkey for their current economic woes, this doesn't happen anywhere except for inside his sick head.

You have it the wrong way around. Bulgaria barely ekes ahead of Turkey in QoL stats today, but during the cold war the differences between the two were very stark. Bulgaria's GDP per capita was 2x higher than Turkey's in 1987, it had also reached full electrification by the 1950s whereas Turkey's electrical grid wouldn't extend beyond its biggest population centers until the latter half of the 20th century. Since 1989, Bulgaria lagged behind while Turkey pushed ahead, so there's less disparity nowadays. When the entirety of eastern and central Europe was being sodomized by Bolsheviks Turkey was of course better off, not better than say Greece but not terrible relative to the commie blocks. Now that the cancer of communism is dead they all magically start to do better despite being behind? Weird. Anyway I wasn't saying the economic situation was bad because of Turkey, but they definitely played a role in why the Balkans has as much ethnic tension as it does today.

Stats say otherwise, read the book "History of Electrification in Bulgaria" to get an idea of how quickly Bulgaria's power infrastructure was built up from the late 1940's to the 1960's without this dogmatic ideology bullshit. Rural electrification was nil during the royal period, but by 1970 99.6% of Bulgarians had electricity in their homes.
https://archive.org/details/HistoryOfElectrificationInBulgaria
Then read "Past, present and future status of electricity in Turkey and the share of energy sources" to see how shitty Turkey's power situation was during the second half of the 20th century. Only 23% of the Turkish population used electricity during the 1950's (entirely confined to urban centers), while by the 1970's, only 7% of Turkish villages were electrified. The situation wasn't even comparable to Bulgaria, which had such a massive surplus of power from hydroelectric and nuclear generation that it exported it to every neighboring country.

I wasn't defending Turkey, I was lamenting how down hill things have gone in Bulgaria over the past 35 years for us to end up economically comparable to Turkey.

At least your ancestors had the sense to stick to christ, despite the repressions. You would be even poorer today + inbred.

Sliven Textile Factory - constructed by Dobri Zhelyakov in 1835 - drawing by Felix Philipp Kanitz

True. The fact that Bulgaria exists at all is remarkable. Half the people living here were Muslim on the eve of liberation, then just like that, we uprooted them, killed them, deported them, did to them every cruel thing they once did to us. 400 years of thorough colonization, abruptly swept away by a wave of unpunished ethnic cleansing. It's why Bulgarians don't talk about Turks the way that Armenians or Greeks do, there's nothing more to "take back".
>You would be even poorer today
Of course. The first Ottoman factory was built by a Bulgarian. Imagine, you're legally a second class citizen, every tax in the book is levied at you, and somehow you become richer than your captor. Where were the Turk industrialists? Why was Sofia electrified 14 years before Istanbul, "the city of the world's desire"? Really, what excuse did they have for being the armpit of Europe?

The royal period was interrupted by two world wars right as electricity was becoming common place in this particular instance, and they were quite a small country, this strikes at a deeper issue however. As is usually the case with communism the trends of rapid technological development and improving QoL in the 20th century are tacked on to the ideology as irrefutable proof of ideological success. In almost all cases QoL skyrocketed after the second world war in particular because it already had in much of the western world and the eastern bloc was catching itself up quite late to the party. These were trends that existed in most nations prior to communist take overs excluding cases like war time they were being built up.

>Anyway, I've seen that guy in another thread bitching about how Balkaners supposedly blame Turkey for their economic woes, this doesn't happen anywhere except for inside his sick head.
Happens all the time, Mladen Borislov. Balkaners always at least partly blame others for being in shitholes. And most of these bulgarians or whatever live in germany leeching of gibs saying this shit

I think it’s hilarious people can see shit like this can’t work immediately, they can complain about the west drawing arbitrary lines in Africa and the Middle East that “cause” conflicts by crossing ethnic groupings, and then in the next breath they will tell you having 40% of kids be foreign in the space of a single generation is brave and bold and any resistance to it is extremist racism and these people are 100% native like anyone else.

It’s like there’s a logic circuit that’s completely shut off from the rest of their brain.

I don't even deny that, but the idea that any meaningful amount of Bulgarians blame Turkey for our current economic state is retarded and untrue. I don't even see this online so I can only assume you made it up in your head.

They democratised too quickly. What progress Turkey achieved was a result of Ataturk's authoritarian drive to make a modern country out of a bunch of illiterate hicks through top-down reforms backed by the army. If he didn't drink himself to death and lived for another 20 years then the country would have been far better placed to completely purge itself of the backwards, corrupt, Islamist socio-political cancer that has held it back under Erdogan.
