>>17844161‘Communism’ was never chosen over liberalism. A centralized authoritarian government calling itself ‘communist’ won over competing warlords and neo-feudal parties that displayed nominal democracy and liberal aspirations. Those ‘liberals’ were simply colonial puppet warlords that did this to gain outside support from the US and Europe, but didn’t have the hundreds of years of rule of law and improvements in quality of life that existed in Europe and America.
It’s hard to believe how seriously people still take Marxism. I suppose some weak form of Marxism in the same sense that “all is flux” is true. But it’s crazy seeing strong forms of Marxism treated as gospel. It’s like analyzing Stalin having a rival murdered in terms Freudian psychology instead of the blunt applied psychology of ‘I don’t want my rival to murder me first.’
Also, on purely Marxist grounds there is no inconsistency in 200 years of capitalism, economic collapse with 50 years of fascism, then 200 years of capitalism, and so forth. There is also no issue with capitalism collapsing and being replaced by socialism, which is then replaced by communism, and then the communist planning authorities make a well-intentioned empirical mistake and the earth’s biosphere collapses. If you seriously believe that the USSR was communist, then the latter possibility should be a concern when you look at how Soviet planning dried up an entire sea, severely polluted Konigsberg, Kazakhstan, etc, and poor nuclear command and control almost lead to a nuclear exchange (RIP S Petrov for stopping this).
There is not “one weird trick” that will somehow bring humanity into the social version of ecological balance with itself. Ecological balance doesn’t actually exist, just periods of stability followed by collapse and resurgence.
