Who would follow a guy all the way into the mountains just to kill him? Not even take his stuff or anything. Unless whoever shot the arrow was a long distance away and didn't want to go over there to grab his gear.

He might've had folks down the mountain and all the gear was custom. They would've recognized it.

He might not have died immediately from his wounds, he might have went into the mountains to escape his attackers and got caught in a blizzard or finally succumbed to his wounds, it is all speculation but evidence does give some clues to his death, we dont know if he was a good guy or a bad guy, only that he was wounded with an arrow and found in the mountains

I thought the arrow piercing is what killed him. That it hit something vital and he tried to feel it with his arm, fell over instantly, went unconscious, and died. Hence the weird pose he died in.

he was not alone and died after a fight
>DNA analyses taken in 2003 are claimed to have revealed traces of blood from at least four other people on his gear: one from his knife, two from a single arrowhead in his quiver, and a fourth from his coat.
>Interpretations of these findings are that Ötzi killed two people with the same arrow and was able to retrieve it on both occasions, and the blood on his coat was from a wounded comrade he may have carried over his back
the arrow didn't kill him when he was shot, he bled out where he was found, no indication that anyone was with him or his stuff after he died
the shaft of the arrow had been broken off and he had his cloak soaked in blood, he had a deep cut on his hand
who knows? I think his last hours involved a fight, he got away from his initial assailants but was wounded, he tried to walk up the mountain to get away, possibly carrying a buddy on his back but they didn't make it

>was not alone
>shaft of the arrow had been broken off
that and he was on his stomach with arm across his chest, not exactly a natural position, maybe people where with him and tried to remove the arrow before he bled out
there are probably a couple of others just like him still on the mountain
his weapons were left with him, so he mostly likely was away from whoever shot him, it strange though if his comrades would leave all his gear with him
maybe out of respect, or had to move quickly
>High levels of both copper particles and arsenic were found in his hair. This, along with his copper axe blade, which is 99.7% pure copper, has led scientists to speculate that he was involved in copper smelting.

He was probably a murderer and an outlaw. The 2 different peoples blood on the arrowhead in his quiver is strong evidence. Also like other Anons mentioned the fact his weapons and gear are still on him means he wasn't looted, means he probably died alone on the mountain (no friends nearby, he was not part of a organized military unit). He could have been a defector from his military unit, or simply an outlaw (outlaws tend to take to the mountains, to get away from society).

Sure but if his killers were nearby they would have probably looted his stuff. His Axe for example would have been really valuable, there's no way that his killers would have left his axe there if they had been present during his death. Furthermore, had his killers been present they would have made sure he was dead by inflicting more grievous wounds, it would seem that he died alone.

Vendettas probably. You know how Vikings (and modern Middle Easterners still do) used to constantly kill people for murdering my brother's mother-in-law's cousin's nephew? People have been doing that since prehistory and whenever Otzi was killed.

This.
>"He said the blood found on the back of Otzi's coat could have come from a wounded companion that he was carrying, but that the arrows and knife blade suggest that he was also fighting off at least two foes."

>otzi
yeah. that's a made up story innit. instead, maybe he was some weirdo that was caught flashing the kids in a trader caravan, he had stolen a bunch of stuff earlier but he didn't know how to use it. he was going to trade it for some skooma in the village below. anyway, when they spotted him he ran off. they fired a few arrows at him as he vanished into the snowstorm. they had a quick look but didn't find him. it was snowing and getting kinda late.

No, there could be other possible reasons. They could have been in a hurry to get out of there.
Consider the possiblity that Ötzi was part of a military unit, or band of brigands, and perhaps his comrades were still firing back at their opponents. Although if that were the case, why didn't his comrades carry him to safety?
There could have been a snowstorm or similar rough weather that covered his body soon after he died.

The copper axe was extremely valuable. However his enemies might have had religious reasons for leaving him there. Although if that were the case, why didn't they deliver a killing blow to his body? This seems to mean that he died alone. It doesn't necessarily mean he was a lone brigand, he could have simply failed to reach his brothers.
