Did chariots actually change warfare all that much? It doesn't seem like they would.

Something to remember is that because of the smaller sizes of horses in the bronze age chariots predated true cavalry by quite a lot. You shouldn't compare them to cavalry, you should compare them to infantry.

They were primarily skirmishers, so they were a hit and run unit that nobody could catch.

>can move much faster and further than any infantry
>can carry more ammunition than infantry
>they noise and speed is really scary for infantry

They're just a great unit for regions with vast flat terrain.

From my understanding not really. They were useful on flat terrain like Egypt for a time but like the other anon says eventually cavalry tactics and horse strength improved making them obsolete.
