As did Austria-Hungary and Germany. All 3 fell to domestic revolution, with their new governments suing for peace. Starving people really don't care about anything except for food. Nearly every revolution begins with people starving.

WW1 USA: Joins at the last moment, but its very presence in the war made German victory impossible

Germany came extremely close to winning WW1, what are you talking about? Those spring and summer offenses nearly collapsed France & co. The only reason it didn't was because of American involvement.
Germany effectively solo'd Russia, France, and Britain (Austria-Hungary and Italy canceling each other out). It took America to tip the scales in the others' favor.
WW2 is more elusive. Again, it is America that is the deciding factor. Without American help, Germany probably does subdue the USSR, but at a far greater cost than it was to subdue Russia just a few decades earlier. But because America will always be involved, that's a moot point. Germany can't really win if America supports the other side, ehrn other side are the British and French Empires, and the USSR.
