Unlike Samaria or Judea, Galilee was a part of Canaan but not really tied to Yahwism. When Jesus was born it had only been a century since the Hasmoneans had conquered the region and forcefully converted everyone to Judaism, same as they did with the Ituraeans and Idumeans. If it is true that he was born up in some small village in Nazareth and not Bethlehem, it is likely that he was not an ethnic Jew at all, but instead the descendant of Canaanite converts to Judaism. He never had any real connections to the Jerusalem cult or the Jewish mindset and only understood it through the lens of a subaltern population who learned about the religion through the scriptures. That's why he was probably so fervently devoted to it.
