Eastern Christians have to be some of the dumbest and most self destructive religious believers in the whole world. They are the reason why the Muslims were able to get so far into Europe, always squabbling and bickering about stupid shit. "We'd rather have the Sultan's turban than the Pope's tiara!" Stupid fanatical peasants, who gives a fuck if the bread is leavened or unleavened? Who cares if Christ has one nature or two natures? Does it matter if Mary is merely the Mother of Christ or the All-Holy Mother of God? Was this really worth dividing the empire over? Was it really worth alienating countless Christians to the point that they felt safer under Arab infidels than fellow believers? No, it wasn't justifiable, it was murderous barbarity.

I don't really think you can justify any massacre. At the very least you can understand the motives and feelings behind it. Many Byzantines were terrified that Westerners would attack them, which they have done before and many were upset about the constant benefits given to Italian merchants. This popular outrage was used the former exile Andronikos to gain power. It was essentially a trade, in exchange for permission to wreck havoc the people would support his position onto the throne. Even attacking friendly Italian's like the Genoese who at this point were on far better terms, more supportive and anti-Venice

They never did this btw. Instead they did the exact opposite and invited in a Roman army to fight the Arabs in Egypt

>They are the reason why the Muslims were able to get so far into Europe
It was the Catholic west who weakened the eastern Roman Empire in 1206
>We'd rather have the Sultan's turban than the Pope's tiara!"
The Ottomans constantly fought Orthodox Russia and constantly fought rebellions from Orthodox populations
>Was this really worth dividing the empire over
It was the Catholic west who split from Constantonople. It is not the Catholic Church that was founded by Christ, but rather the Orthodox Church
>Was it really worth alienating countless Christians to the point that they felt safer under Arab infidels than fellow believers
It was the Catholic west who suppressed local Orthodox Christians in the Levant to enforce the Papist heresy
