The Luddites are unfairly vilified. Yes the technology was overall a benefit to mankind but it came at the cost of these men's livelihoods. It's easy to write them off as backwards kooks, it's not so easy to acknowledge that automation comes with upsides and downsides, which are inequally distributed.

Look where we arrived, between AI and robotics the two technologies are being combined to replace most humans in the workforce making 95% of humanity obsolete, do you think those rich greedy fuckers like Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates or any other bigwig going to care? Why didn't governments or private companies ever implement some sort of training program to get these people to transition from their original occupation to factory work? It's counterproductive to just write off all of that labor because you don't want to train people properly.
