Why did Allah need Muhammad as a middle man to bring his gospel retcon across? Couldnt Gabriel just have talked to the Arabs directly?

Gabriel could have talked directly, Allah could have talked directly. But keep in mind that Allah (another name for God) is Perfect, so whatever he does is the optimal think to be done.
