They probably associated white people with smallpox, tuberculosis and influenza. In the short term it prevented personal tragedies but in the long term it meant they did not adapt to the changes.

I second on this. The only thing that was really of any significance was their lack of adequate weaponry. Not even on the basis of guns or anything, but there's no evidence that they even had steel or copper outside of what was stolen from euro camps, which usually amounted to cookware and traps and snares.

Really there wasn't any winning for them, just softer forms of losing. Part of that is self-inflicted yes, but honestly, if they did survive, it would've ended at best like it did for some of the smaller nations out east.
