Is getting an ancestry test worth it? I wanna find out more about my genetics and where my ancestors come from. For example some of my grandparents had german surnames so I would like to know if I actually have german ancestors

How far back do you know your families history?
I have a professional geneologist in my family so I know who my direct male ancestors are as far back as the 10th century including their names, and can tell you they're from what is modern-day Southern England, and I know less about my moms side but they're more-recent Ellis Islanders from Ireland and I'm white as snow so I don't think I need a DNA test to tell you I'm an Anglo. I think looking into your families history can tell you just as much and potentially be far more rewarding than looking at numbers on a screen and being some haploautist but I also know not everyone has this luxury

Not really, doing real geneaology would be more interesting rather than learning that you are actually 1/256 Navajo and 1/1028 Sorbian or however the cookie crumbles.

If you know nothing about your ancestry, it's definitely worth looking into. But be aware that being part of a nation is as "material" as it is performative. You can have 99% Italian blood but unless you're loud and obnoxious and freak out over pasta being served differently than your grandma served it, then your Italian side is virtual, it's hypothetical, it is not real.
What I'm saying is, get the test that will inform some kind of action or participation. If you are young and have options to become part of some cultures you suspect are in your blood, go right ahead. For me personally the DNA test that makes more sense is risk factor for diseases.

I'm czech and live in a rural area in the czech republic. I found some old birth/marriage certificates of my mother's relatives dating back to around 1870, like around 2/3 of her ancestors have german sounding surnames but I don't know if they were actually germans or just czechs who adopted german surnames. She and her ancestors lived in a town.
But I don't really know anything about my father's side of the family. I know the name of his maternal grandfather and that he fought on the italian front during ww1 but that's it. My dad's relatives were peasants so there are no records at all.
I'm mainly interested in knowing how czech I am. Might my phenotype and my ancestor's phenotype help me in this?
My maternal grandfather was pretty tall and slim, with a relatively narrow face. He had light brown hair and light brown eyes. My paternal grandfather was shorther and broader, also brown hair and brown eyes. My paternal grandmother had black hair, so I'm interested if there's some southern influence.
I myself have ash brown hair, light brown eyes with a speck of gold, I'm fairly tall and pale as a ghost and I don't tan.

Well, I know exactly how my grandparents met for about 4 generations, both distant and immediate, in the US
Obviously for my ancestors that lived in England, it's still possible one of them was illigitimate, but this doesn't reflect on my race obviously so this can be ruled out
For my ancestors that lived in the colonies, it's also extremely unlikely this reflected on my race, so they can be ruled out as well
This leaves me with about 2-3 generations that I could come from mystery meat, but knowing my families history I'm going to say this is exceedingly unlikely.

Only if you're interested in technical ancestry. Realistically your ancestry is your cultural/social identity which the test can't decide for you.

You can also use it for racism, which is neat. Found out I'm 93% Anglo and 7% german, both of which are just german.

Yes, it's worth it. I recommend doing a WGS, because most people (me included) interested in genetics usually follow the commercial to WGS / BigY pipeline, so it might save you a hundred bucks.

I totally agree but there is also children that were taken in when family or close neighbors died.
In my genealogy on my fathers side an ancestor had 3 wives 12 surviving kids and all three wives died young in childbirth. The younger children were parceled out to sons of the first wife and raised as their own.

My maternal great-grandparents had german surnames but they all spoke czech and not german. A german surname still doesn't mean that some of those ancestors were actually german.
