how many were killed to subjugate their branch and join them to the tree? Some did so willingly, surely not all. You are making a big presupposition with the idea that natural gods would really be affected or dependent on this. The idea of faith being what matters was a Christian invention, and the idea that gods would be dependent on human faith for their existence or power is a modern concept that might never have developed without Christianity.
