It was outlawed by anglo-americans beforehand. Slavery was also outlawed in medieval Europe, although it became de facto started again in the colonies. White Europeans certainly were exceptional in the push to abolish slavery, various noneuropean rulers did attempt to ban slavery, but the results were inconsistent.

Slavery is seen as regular evol, except when done to blacks, then it's super evil.
Same for military conquest/invasion (which colonialism is a form of), it's generally seen as bad, but somehow MUCH WORSE when done to Africa.

Wasn't African slavery in America relatively small compared to other regions, and weren't most enslaved people working on plantations because it was cheaper to buy many slaves than to hire poor local workers, it doesn't justify any slavery but claiming some slavery is better than others is weird
