Let's say the defeat at Kursk is a wake-up call for Hitler, who decides to withdraw from Russia altogether and have his soldiers go back to defend Germany proper.
This means that the Soviet Union reaches the 1941 border but with a Wehrmacht that hasn't been crippled by Bagration.
How do German forces fare with shorter supply lines and higher morale?

The problem is that uneducated brainlets view WWII as a classical conflict between Westphalian nation states, when in reality it was a zero-sum race war between Aryans and Jews, no retreat or compromise was possible. Nothing about WWII and its aftermath makes sense if you assume a classical war between nation states and ignore the existential racial, ideological and civilizational aspects of the conflict.

Pretty bad, all the same issues that caused the invasion in 41 still remain but now allied bombing raids are starting to really pick up and their ability to produce war material is significantly hampered by being cut off from a lot of their easy trade routes. Hitler ordered those last ditch holds in the Baltics and along most of the Eastern Front because he didn't want to lose the precious metals that were being exported to Germany. They also would have lost the farmlands of Ukraine/Belarus, the collaborator efforts they had made in the former, and the faith of much of their allies. I imagine his Balkan allies would have left the war given they now were faced with the choice of weathering the soviet onslaught and that would have further hastened Germany's fall given the strategic importance of Romanian oil.

The only real hope for Germany was winning the war in 41 or 42, and by all rights they probably should have. Pretty much the entirety of Europe was in their hands by November of 41, and they didn't really get shoved back until 43. Halder, Rundstedt, and the entirety of OKH and OKW were like yup wars after Typhoon got them all the way to the gates of Moscow. Absolutely no one, not even Russia's allies, expected them to fight on. They all underestimated the willingness of the Soviets to put every last man, woman and child in Russia in front of the Wehrmacht until they could consolidate a line.

No Bagration meatgrinder means Wehrmacht keeps its teeth, but Soviets still outproduce 10:1 in tanks and have infinite Asiatic hordes. Allies do D-Day anyway, now Germany fights two-front war with unbled Red Army steamrolling from the east. Congrats, you’ve upgraded Stalingrad to Berlin 1944.

D-Day is possibly bloodier since Krauts have some more soldiers to relocate to Normandy, but still an Allied victory ultimately
