I was raised on Malcolm X and really all of black academic literature. I'm from a predominantly white state and that's how I found my identity. I’ll cue you into NEWASP culture a bit: if you are part of a minority advocacy group, or have a past as such, you are perceived to be too weak to stand on your own merit and reliant on external support to maintain a basic living.
