Has yuri ever NOT been for trannies? I've read /u/ archives going back to 2006, and even back then they were leftists, and advocated for social activism. I'm starting to think that the idea that yuri was ever "based" is a myth. Besides, before the 2010s, yuri was very niche, so it can't be argued that it was a big part of japanese culture.

So what is the actual history of yuri? Going back to the 90s and 80s how did it originate, and who was it made for?

Yes, like maybe two years ago, when trannies were not yet all ya all were thinking about, Yuri was for girls. Same as BL.

In fact, the genre started out as YA for girls, dealing with a specific psychosexual development phase. So in a way, it proves that those eggs had always been women.

Maria-sama ga miteru is from the 90s, the comic and cartoon are from the 00s. The genre itself is prewar, you can literally ask fucking Grok about it and it might quote Wikipedia for you.

fpbp. If actually bothered to research the subject like I did you would actually realise this almost instantly. Who writes yuri. Women. Who's into yuri. Women. Subject of yuri like Strawberry panic. An all women's school with a central character being a dominant woman. Of course /his/ is not actually interested in primary sources, research, or actual history.

Wat? Back then when I came to /u/ it was borderline assexual relations between characters. Every thread was about one particular manga or couple.
