You may be confusing them for Uralics (Finns, Hungarian, Estonian), which are in fact their own thing.

"White" means English, it refers to the nation of England. "Slav" is more nebulous since it doesn't refer to a single country, but in a similar way you could say that at least Russian people are Slavs.
