Evolution is a much better explanation of sexual perversity. Evolution is random and imprecise, it doesn't "design" things to be optimal. Im not really an evolutionist but we do have imprecise motivational systems that operate on pleasure. We live in a fallen world of sin though where systems that were intended for one purpose become hijacked by pathological patterns that ensnare us in a loop of self destruction due to pleasure seeking.

Why is it designed like this? I believe that God intends for us to wrestle with these problems as a form of spiritual development. We are destined to either overcome them and achieve our intended state of being, or succumb to them and be destroyed (although I believe God is good and gives us many chances at this because it is difficult)

Because evolution only "kills off" things that interfere with reproduction at a population level, and even then only over very long periods of time. Historically engaging in non-reproductive sex did not stop people from also engaging in reproductive sex so it does not have a large negative impact on the species ability to spread.
