Operation Unthinkable . Could it really be pulled off by the US and British army in 1945?

There is no end to Anglo imperialist aggression against peaceful Slavic countries. Thankfully they were too afraid of the mighty Stalin to dare oppose him

Half of the Italian and French partisans were communists or socialists, I really really doubt you could convince those countries to get into another continent-spanning war against the country you were calling your "valiant eastern allies" in propaganda mere months ago. Especially if they went through with their plan to turn the remnants of the Wehrmacht back towards the east, which would conversely give the USSR the perfect propaganda pitch to rally up their populous for a second defense. This is all without mentioning how the USSR had by far the biggest army on the continent at the time and had their military industry supplying everything they needed at that point without the need for western aid, this war at the bare minimum causes 1.5x the destruction of the European theater of WW2 in our timeline, there's also the fact that the US still hadn't completely quelled the Japanese in the east, who had a functioning non-agression pact with the Soviets at that time. Best case scenario there's another arduous back-and-forth slog throughout Europe that lasts nearly a decade and thoroughly demolishes what remains of the continent with several Polish/Soviet cities nuked and several million more dead (and no incentive for the US to go through with a Marshall Plan to help Europe recover this time), worst case the USSR steamrolls to the Rhine/Alps and holds those positions before the US and British public protest the hell out of the war causing them both to drop out and leave France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Finland, etcetera to fall to the red army and/or native socialist uprisings which also butterflies into the USSR and PRC taking most of the Korean peninsula before the US capitulates Japan. It wasn't called "unthinkable" for nothing.

Yeah, if they nuke the cities and oil fields and the US invades from the east.

>the US invades from the east.

lol this isnt some war of annihilation like the Germans tried to do by invading the Russian interior..
Unthinkable was about forcing the Red Army out of Eastern Europe, basically doing a hard reset of all the fuckery that began in 1939.

If Stalin decides to die on that hill then yeah, Moscow gets nuked.

Honestly I think it could have worked. The Soviets were ass blasted by the Germans and only won due to sheer numbers and because the Allies were lend/leasing to them for years. If the Allies decided to stop that and blitzed them for a second round, they probably would have collapsed with another few million dead.

The Red Army by 1945 was literally the largest and most powerful army ever deployed. Stalin could have easily pushed all the way to the Channel if he so chose. The reason he didn't was a combination of not having a sufficient navy to combat the Anglo Americans, and some weird ass bombs the Americans used against Japan.

Doesn't matter that they had the largest army when they were shit at fighting with shitty tech and low as fuck morale from being in the meatgrinder for years. Need I remind you that the only way the Red Army was held together was by forcing the soldiers to the front at gunpoint? Meanwhile the Allies had a much easier time on the western front, if they had moved in on Russia, they would have collapsed. A nuke behind enemy lines would seal the deal.

That order was rescinded three years prior.

No, the USSR was the largest and most advanced and experienced army on earth. They would have curbstomped anyone else at that point. On top of that, EVERYONE but seething elites loved the USSR and "uncle joe", when Stalin died, people were breaking down crying in the streets in the UK, Italy, France etc.
The West didn't even start arguably overtaking the USSR in military might until the late 1970s/1980s.

Morale was literally never higher in the Red Army by the time they hit Berlin. People were deserting to fight in Berlin
>Need I remind you that the only way the Red Army was held together was by forcing the soldiers to the front at gunpoint?
This stopped after Stalingrad
>Meanwhile the Allies had a much easier time on the western front
because the Nazis were being shitrekt on the Eastern front and couldn't afford to send their best West
>if they had moved in on Russia, they would have collapsed. A nuke behind enemy lines would seal the deal.
Russia had been bombed into oblivion and suffered immeasurable casualties compared to the Allies. They wouldn't have stopped just because one city was incinerated.

I think both armies would have a chance at some advances until they hit some stronger natural barrier like a river or a mountain range and from there on they'd get bogged down in late Korea war kind of conflict where theoretically the allies are bombing the Russians driving the latter into complete economic deprivation but can't really push the red army is more than capable of holding their advances while by itself unable to deal with the allied defences due to supply and material problems.

No retard it was also the most skilled and experienced land army since Napoleon.

>if they had moved in on Russia, they would have collapsed

I hear you just have to kick in the door, and the whole rotten structure will come tumbling down.

In what fucking universe does the West go out of WW2 into defeating the USSR? The USSR was literally far more experienced, had far more manpower, had far more popular support across Europe and more advanced weaponry and tanks.
Western forces in Europe would have been wiped out almost immediately. Most European Resistance movements were Communists, so easily would have helped establish Soviet control over their regions.
Look at Italy and Greece, the West knew it could not stop the Soviet Union from just walking in and claiming them, lucky for them Stalin was a massive Ameriboo and believed the USSR and US would basically tag team everyone while being besties.
