I love reverse-translating Western names and words back from Russian, took me a while to figure out that "nojshvanshtajn" is "Neuschwanstein". Even more confusing since it's not Neuschwanstein in the picture

Just outside Fontaine de Vaucluse, though the castle is in ruins.

There's a road that wraps around the castle on that side. There's a 1901 pic, the same orientation but ground level, and there are maybe six trees in view. Pretty good vantage point, and surely that's the reason why that wall has two sets of embrasures.
I was curious about it, the round thing on the floor is a broken sundial.

i guess thats why they had to extend that ledge far out like that, so the suns rays arent blocked by the castle, neat

It seems like if it was an older castle with military purposes first, and arrow slits for windows, it was mostly white, because of the small amounts of light, and then as windows got bigger they could go for a light blue background, and more color.

Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland.
I see lots of Scottish and sometimes Irish castles on little islands, that seem kind of remote, I looked into it and they travelled a lot more on water by boat than on land. Makes sense of course with the very large islands around Scotland, but never heard much about this aspect of medieval Scottish life.
