I've been looking for specifically Lunar Mimi's Coloso course. She's an experienced pro. Has worked in the jp industry for many yrs as an illustrator for gacha and contract artist. All this while being foreign. If ya check out her site and youtube, she's got a lot of CSP specific knowledge and insights into jp work and anime art. From the looks of her Coloso course, the basic shit has been covered by her own free content, but the later stages of the course that require hours of lecture haven't.

I've had dogshit luck with Coloso. Instructors who can't teach, who are difficult to comprehend, or who don't touch on things when they can/should. Lunar's fluent in english, knows how to teach, and has a career of competency.

Yes and honestly while they surely got the manpower to make high quality animation, they don't have any IPs. They need like a few decades to catch up to Japan for that to be a reality. It would be better if maybe China and Japan worked together to make a better show. Technically they're already doing that somewhat. Plus China doesn't really have a VA culture that Japan has. And if a VA gets popular enough to be a celebrity enough to influence millions the CCP will just disappear them or whatever.

China's strategy (right now at least) is poison for global audience but not for the mainland. But they should recognize they're sitting on the best opportunity to spread Chinese influence globally through cartoons and games.

I've heard it's mostly like his youtube videos (so I was hesitant about dropping $200 for it) but having his lectures organized and structured with exercises would be very helpful in learning it all. I've been working with rinotuna's course for the past year (it's good but a bit broad still) and I haven't really seen anything else from coloso that's worth it up to this point. I took that course years ago, and you don't need much drawing skills, just the basics of observation, form, perspective and anatomy.
You can just binge watch "Anime Private School" by Yasuo Muroi early youtube videos, filter by oldest, and then after a few go to Doga Kobo.
Tho it's focused on animation, you do learn about drawing fundamentals, and you improve a lot in a short time, but only if you watch and practice every day for months, iirc the course last between 2 and 3 months.
You end up ready to work in the anime industry as an inbetweener, entry level animator.
Besides drawing basics you in-between animation, walk and run animation, acting, weight/gravity, and a bunch of other stuff.
It's a really good course and it's used for new hires on Doga Kobo.
If you're a freelance animator on X/Twitter you end up good enough to be recruited by P.As and work in the anime industry.

You don't have to be good but at least have some sense of what you want to draw. Fanart is fine? But if you mean just copying extisting art while not having done your own... ehh. Like, one of the chapters does teach you how to do copies more accurately and how you learn from it but it's the kind of practice that's pretty brutal if you don't have some knowledge. I suggest going really basic. Hide channel and minimaru comic, I recommend those free on youtube. Find a how to draw book that teaches you simplified heads and figures. You can watch Saito's course once you've at least tried doing an original piece or two (by original I mean not copied, can still be fanart) and you have ideas of your own you wanna do.
