the Dunning-Kruger Effect:
Dunning-Kruger effect, in psychology, is a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence in a given intellectual or social domain greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general.

If there will ever be another /int/ thread we need clear standards something like

>general understanding of anatomy, but not enough to implement correctly
>understands the basics of light and shadow (knows the terminator, reflected light, midtones, etc.)
>Over symbol drawing
>knows how to do at least one method of head construction and can get a consistently okay result with one angle.

It's just an Idea Idk, feel free to refine it. The /beg/ and /int/ thread seems like the blind leading the blind imo where the majority are /begs/ complimenting /int/'s work and not being able to provide any quality critique.

Whoever told you her muscles were too big lied to you. it's the rib cage that look a bit too swollen along with the reduces chest size (flat bust) that is a weird combination, especially for a major chud like me. Plus, the arms seem a bit skinny and short.
If you keep the rib cage size, make bigger shoulders and arms (mass) or you could reduce the swollen chest keep everything the way it is but either way make should make longer arms since if you would've stretch them, they could barely go past her butt and the hand should be place somewhere in between the hips and the knees.

You wanna start very general and gradually work towards more specific
1. Block-in large values (just grayscale)
2. Add color that matches value
3. Add more brush strokes - pay attention to gradient length in specific areas (eg in metal the gradients are shorter in some areas emphasizing the light-dark contrast
4. Add very tiny specific details over the top of general brush strokes

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you like the colors - color harmonies are something I've been experimenting with lately. I plan on adding a background made of abstract strokes with different overlapping hues, so I agree with you that adding more blue into the background will help balance it more by giving it a more balanced primary triad scheme

When it comes to linework and varying the thickness in key areas, I kind of struggle with that - Do you happen to know of any guides that go into strategies for linework in anime-style art?

Idk if you're going for that bayonetta look but I felt the legs were too long and wanted to work on making the face so I did a redline- but couldn't really see it so I started editing and got a little carried away. Yeah perspective is important in life. What made me snat outta it was really studying a lot. Over the past 4 or 5 years I have studied like minimum 5 hours a day. Yes, well my main goal was the style of league of legends but it dawns on me what no matter what I try it just doesnโ€™t even come close. Idk what the secret is, Iโ€™ve tried following the process videos their artists upload on YouTube but it doesnโ€™t help. I just donโ€™t get it and itโ€™s been too long to keep telling myself it takes time.
So I guess the question is do I stop at this point and try getting inspiration from simpler and more stylized art and realistically get better at it in one to two years or keep trying (and failing) to imitate lol splash art and possibly die never getting it

one difference is that you're relying on lines to create edges instead of the tones and i think that's significant. i hope you're not the kind of person that tells yourself there are certain things in your painting that people won't notice because they absolutely will. the internet is fantastic at paying attention to the dumbest tiny fucking details.

also idk if you can see it but what you wrote isn't a question it's a statement that you'll feel bad in some way if you don't keep trying to imitate lol splash art even though you feel like you keep failing and you're not gonna get it from following process videos.

Yes my lineart is way too thick. I started experimenting and now I try to just go over the lineart with blur tool (pic rel im away from pc so its low res screenshoot sry) to get rid of it but then it looks so flat. If I donโ€™t blur the shadows it looks way too chunky and if I do it looks um. Blurred. And airbrushed which I donโ€™t like. I want the middle ground that lol splashes are in but again no idea how to achieve it.

Nowadays I try to โ€œpaintโ€ picture references without lineart to learn values and hopefully thatโ€™d improve the way my stuff comes out but the problem is! I donโ€™t see these fuuucking values at all. All I see is shadow and just one colored skin. What gives. Idk how they do that!!

Discard the fact that the AI did it and take the pose to give more emphasis to your drawing and improve it, she is looking at her phone in front of the mirror taking a selfie, that exaggerated flirtatious expression in front of the viewer, is the situation with you should play, I feel lazy to put red lines in your drawing because it would be rebuilding it from scratch and that is not my intention.

aside from the fact that the face shape is slightly off (weirdly dented cheek/bone on her left, top of nose weirdly bulbous, and missing left nostril and weird philtrum) and that the shadows are too yellow/not red enough, you seem to have a problem with edge control: some of the soft transitions are much harder than in the ref (say the area between her right eyesocket and the nose bridge, or right cheekbone transitioning into the cheek), whereas some hard edges are much softer (such as the shadow from her nose onto her cheek)

it was general subjective feedback, not critique; if you want explicit critique then it's mostly that the lighting scenario doesn't make enough sense. you have a strong primary lightsource from the top right, but the tuft of whatever on the bird's head isn't catching any light other than on its peak. the two areas above the bird's beak aren't lit in a clear way that implies a top right light, and seem to imply a secondary top left light that's reinforced by the grey bit of the beak but *not* reinforced by the bird's neck

regarding the skull, see picrel. the forehead/top of head is so much bigger than the rest of the head that it ends up looking somewhat weird. in A ive indicated what seems to be a double cheekbone far behind the eye socket (on an actual skull it's just under the socket), and whatever the hell is going on with the extra skull in B. the bulbous bit sticking out of the temple/temporal bone is also making it all look weird, plus a real temporal bone connects into the cheekbone in a pretty specific way

If I were to give a reason for why >>7604061 looks so off, though, it's probably because of the inconsistent lighting and rendering. The light seems to be coming from above, but the belly of the bird and the leg on the left still have a considerable amount of light reaching them. The rendering also makes the bird look shiny and fleshy, not at all conveying feathers or matte skin (especially those flaps around the neck. reference actual featherless birds if that's what you're going for). And whatever's going on with that guy's head and legs. It looks intentional but I don't think you pulled it off in a way that looks good. Not much I can say since you're trying to bend the anatomy.

The colors definitely are muddy. Though for the face I don't think you should tweak it too much. You made the same mistake for the dragon here as you did with the bird, the skin looks way too shiny and smooth, no indication of scales or anything like that. The lighting is also equally as inconsistent. The orb is super bright and lights up the face but doesn't really reflect off of the metal crescent around it. Not to mention having a form shadow despite giving off a ton of light. There's also a light from the top right that illuminates the dragon and the pauldron, but doesn't light up the right half of the face. Apart from those, just a nitpick about the hair looking way too brushy. The rendering on the face is pretty good aside from the colors.

All I have right now is me mouse and keyboard, so my edit is pretty shitty. But using the orb as a bounce light rather than the main source of light would work better I think.

how does amano makes that lineart on their illustrations? the lines on the face features are very thin and the colors are very light. what materials and tools does he use? i suppose it's not some nibs because, but it's not some brush either. help

hey bros i was working on getting close to AI style, learned a lot along the way, to paint the highlights is a pain in the ass but generalizing them to geometric shapes as a whole and then refining has helped me specially on the feet, also first time painting wet things, that tongue needs more white transitions on the wet parts, im more interested in getting advice on the feet, what do you think it needs? comparing to my examples i see a lack of texture but not sure

got a request some weeks ago (i know a lot of time has passed but with a good purpose, i needed a lot of knowledge i didnt have back then) about dante fuckin ingrid, nice anon gave me the refs and the pose, wanted money so i aproached it with courtesy and open to take it for a future work if no pay was made (already has some works posted), i am grateful it didn't scaled up to a paid requests hahahah (didnt knew how to draw a mans face, but after some trial and error i got it workin), know i will make sure i know what im doin and reflect it with examples in my social media, i have hope to be able to attract people to my work
