Make your own brush based on what feels good.

Just copy the Basic-3 brush and play with size curve, flow curve, opacity curve, and softness. You can make a brush for pretty much any non-painting purposes this way. Don't touch ratio, texture, shape and other stuff, it's unneeded.

hard to say for sure with such an extreme pose but i thiiiink this is about right. the scapula pushing out the lat + the relaxed serratus + the stretching of the pec/delt is what is flattening out the arm pit i think.

Stunning work, lad.
But I feel like you didn't get the angle of the shoulder and back quite right, my personal theory is that the model is hyperflexible/hypermobile and that's why the pose looks so funky at certain points. The low quality of the image doesn't help either.

Studying from reference and then trying to do it from memory is probably the most helpful thing I've done. Understanding what I'm studying is another one -- just copying ref doesn't work so well because you're liable to misinterpret stuff. So really learning the structure of what you're studying is important, which is not to say you shouldn't simplify and break things down. It's one thing to understand the structure of, say, a skull. It's another to analyse the individual grooves and bumps that don't show on the surface of the face

Practice from earlier today. It's been a while since I did anything other than 1 minute figures, I think I should do 7 or 10 minutes. Seems it'll give me enough time to try to finish a basic figure in 5ish minutes if I focus and take the rest to try to shape shadows/details. I think I'm going to take practice more seriously, I'll probably start doing a couple pages of Bridgeman everyday. I really want to get better I've been way too lazy for a while now gonna get out of my comfort zone.

sorry I realise now how stupid of a question that is,

I guess what I meant is how do you manage to draw a figure like that digitally (I presume it's digital) so quickly? I guess at the end of the day it's skill, pardon me though I'm still new to this thread as I'm more of a /p/ro guy and shocked at the speed some people can work at.

My gf uses a tablet to draw but drawing figurines like that at that speed on a tablet seems borderline impossible for a plebian like myself that only uses pencil and paper.

Also I guessed I was asking about how u structured all the figurines together in the aspect ratio as you did, looks v smooth and yummy

>how do you manage to draw a figure like that digitally (I presume it's digital) so quickly?
Practice, practice, practice. And yes its digital. Pic related is when I practiced traditionally two years ago, I've filled plenty of sketchbooks with just practicing drawing the body and breaking down the shapes. So now even if draw digitally or trad, I have the muscle memory. So it basically boils down to practice and keeping at it. Timed figure drawings should be stressful and mentally taxing, it forces your brain and hand to look for shortcuts and develop shapes that reads correctly (imo)

For the aspect I just use a 7000x3000 canvas and zoom to roughly 75% so I basically get 10 figures in before I need to scroll down the page to the "row". I dunno, thats just my way of doing it

Thanks
I mostly do 1 min gestures nowdays because I like trying to capture the form and flow, and quickly iterate through different poses. If I were to spend 10-20 minutes on a figure, it would serve as a rendering exercise where you're trying to define the forms through values and edges. I hardly do that anymore (would rather just do master studies of art I like)

The phase your currently in is the frustraton-phase; i once was there when i began with gestures, it was painful.. the only solution to this is, to fight against it and watch videos and also imrpove your linework and ur understanding of form; you have to want it and believe in it to go trough that phase.
There's only two outcomes here, you gonna end drawing out of frustration or you gonna keep moving and susceed.

You realize gestures arenโ€™t meant to be a full figure drawing right? Like, it literally doesnโ€™t matter what you put down on the paper as long as it represents the figure/pose and you, the person who drew it, are able to read it.

All of you niggers need to read Nicolaides.

This is what I dub the "quick gesture trap." Basically, you hear the word "quick" and think that you have to do these fast drawings to get good at drawing bodies. WRONG!! You don't get good at drawjng bodies, you get good at making marks on the page. Slow down, learn to divide the body into simple shapes, 3 ovals for the head, torso and pelvis, 5 simple lines for the spine, upper and lower arms and upper and lower legs, 2 triangles for the feet and 2 boxes or 2 ovals for the hands.

Look up photo references and take your time studying the line of action, perspective of the body and what exactly is the pose suppose to be. Is the person in the photo running, boxing, pitching, swimming, bending, twisting, etc. Then go back and do timed gestures, 2-3 miss each pose, if you have to give yourself and extra 30-60 seconds, do it. Don't beat yourself up if you don't fully draw the whole figure in a short amount of time, you'll get faster eventually.

I just did these real quickly for an example. The top left is an example of what you should be doing and then I did some quick 30 second gestures. It's been a while, so I'm a little rusty but the top 2 on the right where my last figures and came out looking as my best ones.

This shit is HARD, fuck. Tryina make line interactions that convey solidity, indicate but not iverdo accurate anatomy and hit proportions, all together. It feels like I'm gettin closer to being kinda gud, but i look at bridgeman or henry yan and their forms all just LOCK together so solid.

Like I gotta learn to ask before each mark, 'how will this lock-in?' But jugglin the other stuff makes it so challenging, but I know it can be done.

I said it's been a while and they're 30 second gestures. I don't do 30 second gestures anymore as I don't see the point on doing them. I prefer quality gesture studies over quantity. If you want to get better at drawing bodies, again, slow down and do longer sesh figure studies.
