master the basic from Proko anatomy video and you'll no longer feel a fraud. trust me on this. I'm not shilling btw. the only way you use reference are when the light/shadow you're trying to render on the body/subject are a bit complex.

you retards are easy to have your mind blown. what if i told you many artists who draw from imagination learned first from many references, stored since in their mind's library. what if i told you this will happen to you too

references are overrated
you learn much more by studying perspective and construction than by copying photos
real artists don't need references, because they understood perspective and anatomy
you don't need references to learn this, you just need to be good at analyzing

Before I got into drawing I thought skilled artists just spawned masterpieces from their mind. Now that I know that they're all frauds (except chads like KJG), I can never view art the same way again..

There is a difference between using reference for study and practice and needing one just for your daily drawings.
Anonymous No.7594823 [Report] >>7594866
>>7594794
this, I feel like I'm chained to references forever. I can't draw something without reference because I only want to draw new things. If I draw from imagination, then I'm drawing something I'm experienced in drawing, which means the drawing is not new, which means I'm unhappy with it. I don't know what to do.

I also hate my art btw.

There's a difference between studying references and taking parts of references and combining them...

... vs tracing 3d models and leaving it at that. Some of these artists that I thought were gods were just tracing CSP models and not showing any kind of creative decision making.

Copy the refrence. Do Studies
Then you eventually move on to using the refrence as a template because you understand anatomy and detail from your studies. It's a long process. Practice patience first.

That made me chuckle. Omg.

There is your answer. You want to draw like kim jung gi? Then draw people, cars, houses, objects, photos or real life a ton and you'll get there.
Anonymous No.7598377 [Report] >>7598386 >>7599385 >>7600508
okay wise guy, how do I draw original and interesting poses WITHOUT using references?!

And no practice either, don't give me that crap. I want a real answer.

said no one ever you fucking idiot "IT'S BLACK OR WHITE" faggot. both are fucking artists
second point that makes you braindead, the artists who draw from imagination started off with refs till they built a mental library to go without it. you gorilla double faggot

I just trace what my imagination puts on the canvas.
It's not about "thinking" or "knowing", it's merely seeing something and aping it to the best of your technical ability.
Once I start putting stuff on the canvas, the vision I'm currently tracing can change and adapt.
I just keep tracing what my imagination currently tells me.

anybody else just pose on their own?

I bought a (cheap )tripod and just do poses infront of it, and I think its working ok. I try to play with the poses afterwards, but use them as a base

Use whatever works for you.
If using a reference makes you feel good, with a enjoying process and result, it's fine.
If drawing from imagination is enjoyable, it's fine as well.

But it's best to do both, I think.

Kim Jung Gi drew mostly from imagination, but that's after he did many studies from reference.
Even then, he did a lot of life drawings as well, and he recommended seeing docummentaries to collect reference (in your mind).

Frazetta told that he not used any reference, but that was a lie.
However, he did a lot of drawings from imagination as well, such as when he was doing thumbnails before doing the painting commisions and such.

James Gurney 90% use references, though he also construct some of those same references (such as the ones from Dinotopia).

>but that was a lie.
It's always a lie for people who can't pull it off, if KJG didn't record himself you'd say he's lying too.

Can't find the video but the best technique is to look at an image for a few seconds, then turn it off, draw as detailed as you can, then recheck it and redraw from scratch turning it off again, then repeat until they're similar. Practice enough and you should be able to draw anything after looking for only a short time.
