Like some other anon said in this thread: every professional artist out there has been grinding fundamentals for a long time.
It doesn't mean you should stop drawing from imagination. How you approach it is ultimately up to you but there is no shortcut to getting to a professional level. Sure you can delude yourself otherwise but it is ultimately a disservice to yourself.
Reality is far too complex to just "wing it" wether it be anatomy, color and light, perspective. You deconstruct it in your mind, gain a greater understanding of it all so that you can replicate from your minds eye. You analyse and repeat subtle reoccuring patterns until it is internalised and part of your "vocabulary" for lack of a better term.
There is no other way. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
