What is the art equivalent? Practicing fundies so you don't have Deviantart tier art?

No, the equivalent is just drawing. Grinding fundies will get you nowhere, desu. Draw what you like. Keep your mind on the fundies while you draw. Analyze the piece. Draw more pieces.

Ironically stay away from DA and social networks. You'll see fewer products made for short-term gain, it doesn't poison your brain anymore.

not really similar, exercising regularly has guaranteed benefits, with art you can get nowhere after years if you have no direction

Looking at beg art is a pretty shitty motivator honestly. It usually has an opposite effect on me. I think comparing your old art with your new works is much better. Also looking at your inspirations whether it's your favorite artist, manga, animated series or something else is good too. You should really stay positive when drawing and simply keep in mind why you started in the first place (minus if you started only for money which is always a ngmi reason).

Once you draw more than floating figures you realize that drawing boxes wasn't so wrong after all.
Anatomy very useful, too.

How does one observe fundies in drawing without any practice of the fundies? Is this one of them "what is the sound of one hand clapping" type deals?

I have a pretty similar growth curve. for a long time I was drawing scribbles but then I got into actually putting some time into a drawing and improved really fast. that's why it would be interesting to see more as once it clicks, you are off to the races and yk why does it stop right as when he is peaking. damn suicide fuel psyop, i see a /beg/ to /pro/ origin story hidden here

Practice them regularly to keep your skills sharp once you feel you have a solid grasp but dedicate just as much if not more time to drawing what you want. It goes hand in hand.

Nope. Just drawing doesn't get you very far. Every good artist you see has done years of studying to get where they are. Just remember to make stuff for fun alongside the studies. A 50/50 split between studies and for fun art is good.
>>7596295
Very true. Even if you don't have a following. I was a complete nobody but once I deleted my socials I've been drawing so much. I'm talking from 1 hour or less a day to 5 hours or more a day. Social media is soul sucking and an evil distraction.

I feel like, maybe a change of environment, maybe some ceramic classes; some change other than drawing everyday is needed to happen. Go outside and live in this world more. Assuming he was an adult in 2014.

I always find this misleading because this isn't exactly how you do studies. The drawings looks like someone told him he had to draw cubes and do life studies so he did but never applied any of the knowledge to change how he drew. Also there's not 1 anatomy study in here- best he has is all the way in year 5 yet every time he did something from imagination it was some girl.

Learning is not the same as lifting weights. I cannot become an engineer no matter how hard I study. I'm just not smart enough. There are materials I can't understand, and a wide amount of information I probably can't remember. A person with learning difficulties can't learn proper fundamentals like form, perspective, or anatomy, but here's the thing- You can still make beautiful art even when you lack. Great artists don't just think, being able to play a song on the piano doesn't make someone a composer. Skill alone can't create good works.

If this comic is about a guy going to the gym after he sees himself in the mirror then yeah I'd agree that an equivelent is people practicing fundies because they are afraid of making bad art.

If this comic is about "how to not be the fat guy" and you see the comic as two different people,
then no the equivalent is that some people do things based on what they feel like doing and some people "don't feel like going to the gym" and some people feel like going to the gym because "yeah mothafucker"

why did you make this thread?

the artistic perspective on the last panel kills the punchline because it takes a moment to read, it would be better suited for a slow introspective comic, for a punchy one like this you'd want something more obvious and instantly readable

That's bad advice and will only misslead people into finishing mediocre illustrations for years on end..

Like some other anon said in this thread: every professional artist out there has been grinding fundamentals for a long time.

It doesn't mean you should stop drawing from imagination. How you approach it is ultimately up to you but there is no shortcut to getting to a professional level. Sure you can delude yourself otherwise but it is ultimately a disservice to yourself.

Reality is far too complex to just "wing it" wether it be anatomy, color and light, perspective. You deconstruct it in your mind, gain a greater understanding of it all so that you can replicate from your minds eye. You analyse and repeat subtle reoccuring patterns until it is internalised and part of your "vocabulary" for lack of a better term.
There is no other way. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
