I think I understand why westoids can't draw anime and call anime just "big eyed characters", it is because the west has an obsession with the face, with portrait drawing. Look at this drawing of a westoid trying to draw an anime character. What is the problem here? how can I tell this was drawn by a westoid? The face is over rendered and lifeless, meanwhile, everything else is crudely made.

In anime the faces are simplified to quickly indicate what emotion the character is feeling, and the simple face is compensated by the dynamic poses, angels, accessories, clothing, dramatic lighting and such. Westoids do the completely opposite, they render monkey the face and ignore everything else

Actually comic books are a great example of this. Most comic books heavily focus on detailing the face as well, with the body designs being extremely simple, with basic clothes or jumpsuits that equate to a painted mannequin with some accessories and maybe a cape.

The ironic part is that western comics show full body views and and are way more zoomed out for a lot more panels, while manga do a ton of closeups and cowboy (hips-up) shots. Both are avoiding drawing the focus of the detail in the design for the purposes of speed and budget.

Of course, if the face is the spotlight it is meaningless or even detrimental to over-render secondary elements.
You don't know about simple vs complex?
Anime does the same too, you will find the character's eye, hair and clothing/accessories are given a lot of thought while the skin is rendered with very basic two tone sharp edge shading.
They are opposite processes but actually follow the same rule of simple vs complex to quite different results.

Have you seen the difference between an Asian and a European face?
It's really about what is before you, Japanese have a relatively flat face making for much simpler lighting and their fat deposits are distributed in a way that makes lighting much more simple.
Now compare that to the average Western Asian/European male face, even women while they have much softer features are still on a completely different scale of complexity with jutting cheekbones, pretty prominent eye sockets and so on and on so forth.
Ultimately the best way to solve this non issue would be to cover the face with hair and just focus on drawing tits.

I think the specific arts just values a few stylistic changes that doesn't really fit scar. It feels as if he wanted to show the sadness in his eyes but scar's eyes were changed by revenge. If you watched brotherhood you can see mustang's eyes change into the same shape when chasing down envy. That's just my 2 cents

i don't think this is that much of an issue but they don't consider the "soul" of the character
how a character looks is very much their soul, its why most anime fan artists will try to stay more on model than not
