as many or few as you're comfortable with. It's a great book which revitalized my love for drawing and I blew through 70% of it in 3 days

One exercise takes like 20 minutes minimum and there's a shit ton. How are you supposed to finish that in 3 days? I just reached the part where you draw a pepper from memory than from life and that shit is horrendously hard with all that drawing blind and shit.

The pepper that I draw from life is supposed to be better and more accurate than my memory one, right? Than why does it look like a deformed scrotum? Granted I used a Google image because I don't have a bell pepper at home but still

Not that guy who said you can finish in 3 days. And not trying to be rude. But did you finish school? Or did you fail basic arithmetic or something?

>Than why does it look like a deformed scrotum?
Talent. In grade school, the ones we consider talented are the ones who can copy closely stuff from irl and illustrations. Books like Dodson's or Betty Edwards' try to teach you observation so you can do the same. Putting you at the same starting point as those talented grade school kids.

No, you don't get it, I mean how are you supposed to just cram an entire book in 3 days? Don't you need to absorb knowledge or something?
And there's like 50 fucking exercises. Even if you instantly understand the assignment and complete it in 20 minutes(even though many of it recommends 30-40 minutes), it'd still take basically a whole day and your studies would be super rushed.

Homeboy didn't actually do the exercises and just read the book, skipping this he already knew. Perception is what you hope to improve with these books. No such thing as talent. Some people are just inherently more perceptive than others by default, which is why you need this book.

Oh, so the 70% just means he had read 70% of the book in 3 days? That makes more sense. So should I skim the book like him and pick my own exercises or should I take the long bus and exercise my way through the book?

One thing some people do for informational texts is they go through it lightly first and just get a grasp of the full context of the material presented, skipping things that take too long to grasp or that they already know. They then go through it slower.

I personally don't know how someone can mentally do this (if I'm reading, I'm reading...), but I have seen it stated enough as a "study technique" that it's apparently common.

it's not rocket science, just read along, and do exercises when they come up. I think I did sessions of just read text until exercise, do exercise, stop for the day. And I also didn't do every single day, although I tried to be consistent. But again, it doesn't fucking matter, go at your own pace, take your time understanding the things it's teaching you.

You are such a fucking moron. The only way you'll ever learn to draw is if someone is right next to you holding your hand the entire time. What do I do? What next? Ahhh help me mommy I can't make my own decisions.

Forget the books. If you truly want to draw, go register for a class. Otherwise you are guaranteed to fail. That much is clear from your attitude.

Did you want someone to suggest 1.2768 page per day quota?

The book comes with a self-evaluation checklist after each chapter. You're supposed to practice evaluating your progress and adjusting as you see fit. That being said if you're absolutely new start with one exercise a day and adjust as you work through the book.

>>7600004
It's not about looking good or bad right now, it's about internalizing concepts. Do you understand the limits of your imagination when you haven't studied a subject? Did you keep your eyes on the reference more than the page? Are you evaluating your lines as you put them down and restating them when your first attempt is wrong?

its okay, here is mine pepper from back then for comparsion.

i recc you to also copy all pics from the book for mileage. also there is at the end of each chapter self evaluation "test", so that should give you an idea if you did well or not.

one thing i would call you out on your pepper is how lazy you were with the coloring the darker spots: you did not even bother filling the spots between the lines. put a bit more effort into it.

I just started it and can't draw for shit. I don't see the issue with pacing. Just do the exercises, look at the self-critique checklist and move on if you think you got it. Obviously apply what you're studying outside of the exercise.
