TRUE DYNAMIC SKETCHING edition
This is a thread for those who want to go through dynamic sketching as a group in an effort to improve drawing skills starting from the very fundamentals. Here we share the tedious grind, crit and encourage each others.
Please specify the week you're on and if it's dynamic sketching 1 or 2 when posting your work.
>What's Dynamic Sketching?
A class by Peter Han that focus on improving draftsmanship, construction and design. It is intended for beginners, but the second class can be useful even for /int/. It covers a wide variety of subjects, but not figure drawing.

\Course\Form and Construction\
IMPORTANT REMARK, for those who want to get the most out of this course:
There is an important distinction between SEEING the forms, and actually UNDERSTANDING the forms. When you see the forms, you are simply drawing from observation, which is what I've been doing, and I believe everyone in this and past threads. When you understand form, you can replicate it from your head, rotate it without reference, draw it in certain perspective, etc. This is the reason why the redesigns are so important and should never be skipped; they are in fact the essence of this course. Naturally, seeing comes before understanding. This is why I will be doing yet another run through dynamic sketching, first finishing the course in the way I have been doing (i.e. observational drawings mostly, with the redesigns), then doing true dynamic sketching.
I realized it by his comments in this video, at the given timestamp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75apahP3Mvk&t=4664s [Embed]
the part where he says to not look at the finished ones, but at the primitive ones is what made me realize it.
It's a long road, but it's worth it. If you're willing to put in the hours, this course will teach you how to draw.
Mess up a lot, get that mileage in, but most importantly pyw
let's go back to the squid
Finally, I have obtained the first volume of the dynamic bible. Let's hope he publishes the other volumes in our lifetime.
quality of the book is very high, big pages, it really looks as if I'm holding the original drawings here. Definitely recommended, seems to be filled with additional useful information on top of what's already there in the videos (though the videos are still the most important, it seems, the book being supplemental)
>>7604039superani did another sale, you could preorder them. It just ended, you can't buy them anymore, probably within the next 5 years they'll print them again and hopefully release volume 2.
I'm just starting out trying to draw real objects instead of primitives, amidoinitrite?
>>7604281looks very good, I can clearly tell what the shapes are and how it fits together. Though I have to say texture and hatching is maybe a bit lacking and sloppy. Also, after all the studies are done, you can do a "complete" drawing of it, so in this case of the entire plant. But overall I'd say pretty good, keep practicing and staying mindful and you'll improve fast.
(I'm currently doing faggot exams, so I don't really have time for dynamic sketching, so I won't post my drawings for another 10 days or so).
>>7601459 (OP)>>7603757When is the 2nd volume being printed bros...
>>7604378wow thanks. also yeah the hatching process I really don't get so I'm going back studying it right now.
>>7603757>>7604398is this just an updated version of the old dynamic bible?
>>7604543It's not the same as the previous versions. This can actually be used for studying, with the previous versions I never really understood what was going on exactly. Also different topics here (only fundamentals + insects + cars are covered here), but in a lot greater depth. This version is also strictly done with ink
im having a hard time drawing cylinders, i can't seem to understand how to rotate them
can anyone explain pls
>>7605154imagine a plane around an ellipse. a cylinder is just inside one big rectangular box with infinite planes. thatโs it. I donโt know why fagtubers make this so hard to grasp.
>>7605594forms are looking good again, very clear. One easy to fix mistake I notice about your hatching is that you strictly use straight lines, which flattens the the drawing out. This is absolutely not necessary. Follow the contour when drawing hatching lines, this way you simultaneously show form and value. Pic related, I applied some curved hatching on the fish but it's hard to see so I did it again on the organic form
I also seem to notice you're pressing down hard on the paper, but that might not be the case. Anyhow, avoid tensing up in general.
Your forms are very clean and clear though, better than mine. Did you do Scott Robertson before this?
>>7605594>>7605716also maybe a good exercise for you right now would be to practice just the textures, it's maybe a tedious exercise but it seems to be the one thing you struggle the most with.
Managed to break free from my desk. 30 minute drawing, just on bristol and with a single marker (that's all I had). First time drawing a reptile, the result is better than I expected. Though it is also not that hard, the forms are clear (no fur in the way), and the texture is clear too.
Something I should've put in the OP, is to ALWAYS draw from life, if you can at least. Find your nearest taxidermic place or whatever for the initial practice, then if you feel confident enough draw live animals (I've only done this once, it's a good exercise because it forces you to be quick and capture the essence, but I'm not yet confident enough to keep doing it).
>>7607738you should try to make the texture wrap around the form better
so this thread is dying already after 4 actual posts?

looks like they're doing yet another presale. I wonder why they don't just keep it available, like normal books
The fucking book can't be shipped to me, just great
no one is posting again...
does anyone have the written notes for his course? thanks ahead of time. don't have the time for video courses of this length atm but his ideas seem great.
I'm sort of doing this but at the very very beginning because I do not currently have adequate command over my ability to make intentional marks on my drawing surface.
Question: Is it better to rotate my work or to simply learn to draw any arbitrary line while my page is static?
>>7614773some rotation is allowed, but keep it minimal, because if you're walking around with your sketchbook or whatever you won't be able to turn it completely anyway, so you want to be able to draw a good line in any direction
OP here. I think I'm gonna start my "true" run, alongside my original "observational" run. I realized there's no real reason to do both runs completely sequential, I can just do them side by side. So I'm not gonna let this thread die just yet
>>7618329you should start with having a habit of drawing every day first bro
>>7620068I've been drawing daily for more than a year now you goddamn nigger. I stopped posting it because it doesn't matter, no one ever lasts more than 1 week and no one ever gives proper critique on my shit, look at the previous dynamic sketching thread. Now you start posting your toddler drawings or shut the fuck up.
alright, this fucking nigger
>>7620068 made me realise it's over, thanks everyone who participated, but there really is no point in posting anymore. It takes up time and has not helped me in any way.
>>7603757could you post the page of recommended daily exercises? my lines are utter dogshit

>>7601459 (OP)damn hope peter gets better. these damn dynamic sketchers keep dropping like flies

>>7621233It's an extremely rare autoimmune disease that's more common in asian men in their 50s and affects only 1/1 million people.
>>7621113hey nigger, how about posting your work if you're taking over the thread?
>>7621184Damn, hope he can still draw after recovery.
>>7621249>>7621249First Miura, then Kim Yung Gi, now this guy... Asian jeans was a meme?
>>7620191>>7620294>>7621256>Using the n-word without reservation like candyI always could feel you weren't a good guy. If you were good at drawing, you'd at least have that one redeeming quality, but too bad you aren't
Some anon shared an Imgur album with some Dynamic Figure lecture notes somewhere. I compiled it into a pdf and thought I'd share it back in this more convenient format
https://gofile.io/d/uXnEVj
don't forget karl kopinski had a stroke, all these satanic pacts to learn how to draw from imagination are catching up to them
>>7622655don't forget the OG Norm Schureman. what the fuck is up with dynamic sketching
>>7621184fuck dude i hope he's gonna be alright
>>7621431>vaxx status? This isnt like with KJG. If I followed what he said correctly, he has a bacterial infection that's linked to eating raw meat. Not _everything_ can be blamed on the j00s. Right?
Wait...
>>7622665>don't forget the OG Norm SchuremanIt sounds so absurd that he literally got shot up.
>>7622778>bacterial infection that's linked to eating raw meateven if you unironically blame jews for everything this one is objectively one you cant, they make a big deal about how meat should be cooked and if anything it was the right wing anti jew segments of the internet pushing for raw meat insanely hard for the past few years
How do I get better at feeling the form? Just keep on practicing?
stuff

๐
>>7627907>Just keep on practicing?I hope this works, lol. Which exercise are you doing atm? I'm still on week two, tried to apply texture here
I am reatarded for spading last 3 months doing daily exercises from week one and not progresing at all?
>>7627907learning the formal aspects of perspective (like the actual logic behind it with rulers and protractors) and then trying to do breakdown tracing of master works helps a lot honestly
especially if its not clicking in yet with the exercises
>>7627907one good exercise is to take a tennis ball or whatever, run your finger around it and literally feel the form. then draw a circle and a contour going around the form to make it a ball. when you draw around the form, try and feel the same sensation as when you were touching the ball. repeat until you can literally feel the form.
>>7628390yeah maybe. you should probably move on, apply it to actual subjects might let you actually apply it properly.
If I'm struggling with shit do I just move on or should I do extra practice? On one hand, it's not like I'll be a pro in a week but I don't know if I'm shooting myself in the foot for the later weeks.
>>7631262What are you struggling with?
>>7632195Week 3 stuff. I'm having a hard time being able to draw a rotating cubes. I understand the concept of 1,2,3 point perspective (yeah, the sides go towards a vanishing point) but it's hard to rotate a cube and be able to draw it freehand just like that.
