Hey /ic/,

I am going back to writing a LN I had stopped some years ago.
Everytime I go back to writing it, I, naturally, feel unsatisfied with some things, but I mostly have trouble rewriting things due to becoming rusty at creative writing itself.
I do not actually feel like writing other things right now, but I need a way to improve my creative writing while continuing the progress of the story. Can you give me some advice?

Write what you actually see and experience. Basically (narrative) non-fiction.
Not joking.

You should be reading far, far more than you write.

Bad advice, popularized by that hack Stephen King. Somehow permeated into other creative field too. Like you should play a lot of video games to make a good game. You should collect artbooks for inspiration. And so on.

That's the art of equivalent of telling people to study more than draw. We all know how that usually turns out.

Describe what you do in your room. Your state of mind. What you feel. It's not rocket science.
You can later transplant this to fiction, Paul Schrader-style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NhSZ6RTQgk

Pick up Le Guin's Steering the Craft. Libgen has a copy. Do the exercises, work on your personal work, do some more exercises.

I've had one novella published (>inb4 post it, it's called ceвaп зa мaлepи and it had a local print run of 300 but i'm happy with it) and really my only advice is just finish the story first then rewrite it. Get the story out, then figure out how to fix it. That's the whole philosophy underlying NaNoWriMo too.

Some asian storywriting book I read said something like there needs to be something wrong/unmatching/broken then it should be solved in a way/notion/meme that is bigger and cooler. Same patter continues. Like if you have a powerbuilding fantasy protagonist should always solve the incident by being stronger. If its about strategy and brains it needs to be increasingly solved by smarter ways.

i don't think videogames or art are a good equivalent. reading things in a style i enjoy actually has helped make my own writing more like it. it's much more direct in the way that knowledge is applied when you write.

I went on a review reading trip today and it feels like no matter what kind of story or character you write some retard will find a way to nitpick it to death. How do writers live with that?

I open the thread and look inside. There is a picture of a female at the top, it looks sweaty and scary because it has skulls in its hair. The author is probably fond of little girls but I don't judge, because I'm sure it's of a platonic nature.

People who call themselves "Anonymous" have posted little text messages below. They're all written in English. I read them because I have nothing better to do. I soon get bored because there are not enough images to grab my attention. I think on the fact that I like gifs a lot because they move a lot which distracts me. There is a gif at the top of the page, advertising another board. I wonder what happens if I click it?

But I don't click it.

This confession has meant nothing.
