Learning and growth occurs outside the comfort zone. It doesn't have to always be miserable but if I'm pushing myself it will for sure be miserable sometimes. If it's never stressful, I'm just stagnating.

Every time I try to draw my focus keep jumping to random things, it's like trying to balance a ball on a pyramid and it's driving me insane. It should be as easy as 'just draw'

Drawing is only enjoyable if you can do it well. But getting to that point requires suffering for thousands and thousands of hours. That's fucking ridiculous for a "skill" that doesn't even have any practical utility aside from maybe earning some coombucks. It's really not worth it.

okay how the fuck do I make myself draw? I am so dead tired in the afternoon that I can't even keep my eyes open, let alone draw. But when I decide to do something stupid liek play vidya or jack off to porn, I'm wide awake again. I want to draw but its like trying to lift a boulder.

unironically wrong, this is the same ego protective measure as never going outside of 3/4th anime girl headshots in a white void, you are chasing a certain fetishized aesthetic of effort rather than effort itself, drawing shouldn't be painful if your goal is optimal improvement, hard? sure, tiring? of course, mentally taxing? specially if you are working with complicated perspective, but none of it should be a source of turmoil, that'd be like saying that your muscles at the gym arent growing unless you puke after every workout

The problem is the idea you could love drawing and the process but never improve that stops people from committing since nobody wants to be that guy.

Thing is, enjoying the process sometimes isn't enough. Though it's a fine line, if you're too hard on yourself you'll either burn out or just do the same thing over and over.

it is precisely because I love art so much that it is painful. I want so much to draw what I envision and curse myself to the depths of hell for not being able to. I'd be just as hard on myself for any hobby I fall in love with- because I'm that type of person

There's always at least a few threads specifically for drawing on this board at any time. They're admittedly slower than pretty much every other thread on the board because this place really is full of nodraws, but they're around and do get participants if they strike people's fancy.

Just look at >>7600065 , there's some cool shit in there.
But yeah, people here would rather talk about drawing (or worse, shit like social media, or gossip, or whatever-else) rather than actually fucking drawing.

The same reason /a/ is the worst board to talk about anime and manga, /co/ the worst board to talk about comics and cartoons and /v/ vidya. However /a/, /co/ and /v/ are the best boards to talk and share art. Just don't do drawthreads requests because the 99% of the requests are by on request spammer.

>Drawing is only enjoyable if you can do it well.
Because you've convinced yourself that you can't treat it like fun.
>But getting to that point requires suffering for thousands and thousands of hours.
You've built a cage of torment for yourself, with not even a clear definition of how to get out.
>That's fucking ridiculous for a "skill" that doesn't even have any practical utility aside from maybe earning some coombucks.
There's millions of people who just enjoy drawing and painting at whatever level they're at. This is a you problem. You've told yourself you are not allowed to have fun and just enjoy things, and you've let your ego take control and put conditions on what you yourself admit is a pastime. Ask yourself why that is? Is it because you don't feel like you're worth appreciation and respect unless you "prove your worth"? Is it because you've told yourself or been told you have some duty to fulfill?
