Becoming pro before starting trying to make money with it. A lot of digital artists I know try to monetize their lackluster skills with gimmicky stuff and marketing. Marketing what? You need to be advanced at least at your stuff for your skills to be monetized honestly. But you should not wait too much, like getting into the studying limbo before creating completed complex stuff or getting some sheckles.

People usually say ""don't wait until you're good enough to start that project" but truth is, it's a load of shit. You do in fact need to be good before starting something like that.

Believing Evangelion is any good or that it has a deeper meaning is the bigger crime. Grow up.

That's because in many cases you learn more by doing and failing than by doing everything BUT the thing you want to be doing.
Failing doesn't mean permanently failing, you just do it again but better.

The choice is "before starting ANY project sort of project" though. It's fine to put off doing that one grand undertaking that requires a pro level of experience, but you should still do small-scale projects that push your limits in a manageable way. That way you realize your actual limits and get accustomed to failure, instead of just mindlessly grinding away with the vague idea that you'll be good enough someday in the future.
I know the question is "which one is worse" but you DO have the option to not do either. Some people on this board unfortunately don't realize that

Just do the project with the skillset you have right now. You will learn along the way.
What you perceive to be your magnum opus never is. You will inevitably come up with bigger and better ideas in the future because you are a smart and creative person.

Why do you need to be good? Will the art police break down your door and arrest you?

nope, this is just pure cope said by the fags here. Time and time again, you don't need to be an industry pro to make large sum of money from. EVEN threads with many examples are shown,

It's just coping fags that would say this. You don't need to be good to be able to market or monetize your art. the hundreds to thousands of examples that are shown here proves that from threads showing that and their cope goes like"I-it doesn't count".
