Does it ACTUALLY work? I dont mean it in the way of getting uwu buddy buddy artist frens but rather as a way to actually get clients, Ive seen the advice of getting into Discord art servers constantly get thrown around and Ive wondered for a while if thats a good strategy, one would think that that only works for artists and that clients use other sites as catalogue.

Where do potential clients actually hang around looking for new slaves to commission to? I already blacklisted myself on Twitter and Skeb is a japanese platform for japanese people and if you dont have a japanese style no ones batting an eye for you, so where else?

Find a big public server run by a big numbers artist. Preferably one with similar tastes. There'll usually be a channel for advertising comms, but also post your regular work as you make them in the appropriate art channels.

However, the secret best way to advertise yourself on these kinds of servers is to stream yourself drawing via screenshare.

Not gonna tell. Why should I help an online stranger while at the same time increasing competition? I’m not that stupid.

I read on Telegram about a SEA nigga making bank off Discord, he's an anime artist and his art is utter garbage but he's into an obscure niche.
His art is weird and make normies puke but if you're a degenerate weeb or furfag give it a go.

>Where do potential clients actually hang around looking for new slaves to commission to?
Depends.
If you want regular comms, they're hanging around in big media discords that discuss multiplayer videogames or hit tv shows, and if you post killer fanart and mention you do comms you start getting eyes.
If you want degenerate comms, porn circles.
Basically the same as getting comms anywhere else. Be advised that a lot of them like to talk to the artists they're commissioning a lot and everyone I know that lives off comms has to tank an insane amount of DM autism.

this is why you are ngmi. if your style is unique in the platform you own the entire market for western art style (unless your art is trash)

sure buddy, the average weeb and terminally online jap is surely going to choose you over their favorite anime artist in their anime platform solely because your "style" is "cool", its not like anime became the status quo style for a reason and all media is starting to pivot towards that direction

Networking is just talking to people and making friends. Does the platform allow you to talk to people and make friends? Then it's platform you can network on. Discord isn't magically different from any other platform that lets you talk to people and make friends.

I've gotten clients from it, but only by going onto servers specifically for matching clients with artists. You could try a shotgun method of just posting your art in a shitload of servers and hope somebody DMs you, but that seems like fishing for a pet fish when you could just go to the pet store. Though even just posting my art in a handful of servers has gotten me people trying to get free or super cheap work from me.

I've seen people on art servers talk about commission servers and there seems to be a decent community if you can get into them. The ones that will vet users seem to have more consistent work, but it seems like mostly random jobs for autismos that still works out to minimum wage or less unless you're quick and can work with a bunch of artstyles.

If you're still curious, I got an animation commission from a friend; they introduced me to someone who wanted a commission. So yes, getting friendly with people on Discord will introduce you to more people who are willing to commission you.

You need to be active on social media to get consistent commissions. Fix whatever tard shit you did and get back on twitter, post on pixiv and open pixiv requests(commissions). Facebook and instagram are also good to grow followings which you can later convert into commissioners

Discord is great for networking and meeting artist friends who can signal boost your stuff or help you on bigger projects but not for commissioning people. Any art channels you go in are being flooded with 500 other you's who are also trying to get commissioned.

If you can stand out on social media first you'll have other people posting your shit in their servers for you

Commissioners will flock to you

I've gotten some clients from there, but I did it through the proper channels (#art-promotion, or #art-commissions, or similar).
Don't send people DMs promoting your art.

If the commissioner does not get straight to the point on what he wanted drawn, it's a scam.
If there's a lot of sugarcoating it's a scam.
If they're skirting around payment it's a scam
But I think I'm encountering far less of those. They're probably turning to AIslop lol

One of the pros artists have over machines is that they can somewhat socialize, but reading these posts makes artists come off as huge douchebags.
t.commissioner that really wanted to throw money at artists but they were autistic antisocial egomaniacs that couldn't play along.

I mean, at least you could spend a little effort into coding an AI with your personality that can act as a segretary online, but you'd rather complain that people want to chat with you...
