He definitely was inspired by Aubrey Beardsley, Harry Clarke, John Austen ( who were in turn inspired by Japanese Ukiyoe artists)
I also could see some Hans Bellmer and HR Giger in his stuff

I've noticed contemporary Mexican painters seem to cultivate this aesthetic in particular. If you asked me, I'd say it's the most bourgeois cornball shit in existence but, if it floats your boat, check out kikyz1313.

If you are seriously interested in "the grotesque" (which is ultimately the best description for this theme) and want to see it done to perfection, I enthusiastically recommend Peter Greenaway's films; you could pick any of them and strike gold, but my favorite is The Baby of Mâcon: that movie fractured my skull.
