The site is mostly made up of bot and sock puppet accounts. If you could find a way to monetize engagement and net some passive income, sure. Don't expect any meaningful interaction, though.

Yes it has a measurable effect on the algorithm, and you need it if your account was made recently to remove restrictions. This is all public knowledge. The $8/mo is a writeoff.

You can also hide your checkmark if you like, but it's a good deterrent against the kinds of vindictive assholes who would cut off their own access to your art over petty reasons.

Yes, immediately and tangibly, but I'm not sure how real it is.
You can immediately tell which artists have boosted accounts because they're all rocking at least 25k+ followers, but their engagement is dogshit and their comm rate is neglible, I honestly think that you're basically paying to get bot-boosted.

Is being bot boosted particularly bad if an average coomer sees a big number and decides to trust the artist because of that? Of course it looks bad if you have thousands of followers but only get a few likes

>average coomer
If you're making coom art you 100% don't need premium at all, that stuff gets mad traction regardless as long as you're remotely okay at it and still gets decent engagement long after you've hit 100k+ followers.
Coom artists can talk about just being mercenary all they want, they're definitely in it for the love of the game, because the number 1 thing coom artists love is other coom artists.

I mean you can still boost if you feel like it and $8 a month is negligible to you, it doesn't matter, none of this matters. Can think of it as just buying an ad I guess.

Well, you're wrong. You've never heard of 90% of the artists that show up in game, movie and tv credits so you quite clearly do not need to be popular to make money with art. Furthermore being popular does not require social media. Authors can be quite popular without ever touching social media. Very, very few manga authors got popular through social media before becoming authors; their popularity came from their authored works. If anything "popular social media artist" is just a tiny tiny fraction of the amount of artists making a living with their art.

You're still wrong for the exact same reasons already listed in the post you're replying to. What makes you think the medium chosen to draw in makes any fucking difference here? Are you gonna say that painters need to paint in oils not acrylics or they won't get any traction?

One solar flare could wipe out all digital artists in an instant while traditional ones would just continue making their shit. There is no solar flare equivalent for the latter, since you can make art with a stick, the fact I have to bring this up is already embarrassing. Where do you think digital artists post their work? Is it then so outrageous to say that they rely on online metrics to exist at all?

Being popular is not the prerequisite. In fact, being popular is often an issue with sustainability.
What you want is REACH. Reach is not popularity. Reach allows the highly-interested people to find you, and pay you.

What >>7623123
didn't grasp in his attempt at a response, is that those people still have REACH, it's just targetted within specific circles (industry ones, in this case.)

>>7623642
That would also kill a lot of trad artists because we (as I am one) rely on people who make use of computerized design, manufacture and logistics to produce our materials.

Kind of off-topic, but is it worth creating a Twitter account if I won't be posting many illustrations? Most of what I draw is for a client who hides much of this content behind a paywall.

You're better off targeting smaller communities with less competition rather than paying somebody money for 'priority' in an oversaturated hypercompetitive market. Once you have a good enough following you can start considering paying the jews as it will yield more results that way.

currently twitter is the best place to collect your images because doesnt compress and fucks the images, second because of the fallery option that actually works as gallery and separates the topics from text posts, and because is easy accesible for most of people, on the planet.
Instagram is an ok gallery but very much inferior, first fucks up your images on the compressing process, second it limits your images because their fixed aspect ratio to upload (super retarded shit because the site is heavily focused on social media scrolling si everything needs to have the same aspect ratio), and also you can't use any search option at all there more than the tags that are bullshit, on twitter you can at least search words on the bar, and on the same user, along with the tags, etc.
If you want more professional looking shit ould be artstation.

They just applied to a fucking job. I know people who work in video games and animation projects. You just apply to job listings. It's not some magic system where if you're in you're in. You apply to a job. You work that job until the job is over. You look for more jobs. IT'S JUST A JOB. Popularity is completely irrelevant. Reach is completely irrelevant.

Not really. It takes forever to game the algorithm so you're only getting art posts instead of interaction bait, and art directors don't scroll twitter to hire, they go straight to artstation or their email inbox.
