You might, actually.
You just have to be internalizing what you're doing, and eventually move on from it. If you do it mindlessly it's just the equivalent of jerking off or playing an easy videogame or watching reality TV reruns you've seen a billion times.

eeeeeh 50/50, complexity represents a challenge, a problem to solve, and being a problem one actively seeks the solution consciously and then passively unconsciously, if what you do is trace over an illustration you do not learn to see what you need to see to obtain similar results, but instead you simply learn to "trace over", personally when I see an illustration I start thinking of ways to solve problems, how they obtained this or that result is one problem, why they decided to use this or that form is another problem, and then through experiments arrive at the solutions to said problems, tracing over allows you to shorten the path using shortcuts, but it does not develop you in depth as an artist, even trying to copy is better than tracing over, because copying still makes you ask yourself "and how did they do to obtain this result?" and forces you to gain knowledge, develop techniques, see the solution from all possible angles... idk, just my thoughts on the topic
