Normies see art as a low status profession. It's quantumly always JUST beneath them no matter how much money you make. This is because, for lack of a better way to describe it, a successful artist is effectively succeeding via a "sigma" path as it's one of the few professions that has to be outside of normalcy to work and intentionally disregard the usual social conventions.

This occurs with a lot of professions. Artists aren't special.
In fact, artists are just seen as lesser, not scum like some are. Lawyers, repo men, insurance workers, inspectors, garbage men, plastic surgeons, car or appliance salesmen, journalists, government workers (DMV/etc), strippers, and many others are looked at poorly, even if they make good money. Not to mention any "management" position nowadays.
If you aren't some 9-to-5 office wagey or in a "classic" profession like a machinist, construction worker, farmer, contractor or mechanic, you're look at like you're either a sad tale of misfortune or as if you make the world worse
