>>7630153 (OP)I did enjoy some of his vids, especially those were he speaks directly to some posers with art degrees. I share some of his views on contemporary art, but the problem is that to have an educated opinion about art, you need to draw. This is not some elitist gatekeeping tactic, but drawing is thinking in art. You can see the disconnect most clearly in his video "what does it mean to be a master ep 14". You see several people grouped up, supposedly interested in art but they fail to start up a conversation and when they finally manage to do so, it is meaningless word salad. No one can escape the necessity of picking up a pencil not even the historians and the critics. Imagine a comic artist in a room with an old master like Rembrandt. They do completely different things, yet they will instantly have a connection and would talk to each other about art. Today's academic artists don't draw anymore and they pay dearly for it. I am not even saying they should draw figuratively or anything specific, but their lack of drawing (thinking in art terms) shows in their speech. They are absolutely clueless and disconnected. They inhabit a field they don't belong in.
