Here's my dilemma. I've already got a public account that's decently popular that's tied to my identity, at least to the point that when you google my name I'm the first to appear. However, I want to make a separate art account with a different style and tastes, not necessarily nsfw but who knows. I'm scared of being doxxed, since fans in the niches I like can be very mentally unwell and vindictive. What are some ways I could remain anonymous for commissions?

depends how crazy you're gonna be about it, really. the basic are just make a proton email with a username that's gibberish, never been used by you, rarely talking about your personal life, and having a 20+ digit password.
https://www.privacytools.io/

if you go crazy you'll be adding a bunch of add-ons to a browser you never heard, and asking for Moneroe cryptocurrency for commissions, no one likes going through hops to give you money, take note of that. what fanbase are you fucking drawing for? lulz

I get that, my main issue is payment. Afaik paypal has to display names for transparency, but I didn't know if there was another way, say for people who draw smut.

Nobody here will give a real answer because people pretend that the question is "how do I stay completely and totally anonymous on the internet to the point where the NSA can't find out who I am" instead of "how do I take commissions from people without giving them my real name"
When you make money online you will have to give someone your real name because the tax man wants his due, so your best bet is to use a middle man, which will take a bit of the money. Services like that exist like commiss.io and arty.oo. Some people use ko-fi or patreon but I believe NSFW is against ko-fi's TOS, so check up on that. Probably what you will have to do is raise your prices to accommodate for the middle-man taking their cut, and if you can stand the setup, offering a discount for using crypto that eliminates that middle-man fee. Note that this doesn't make you doxing-proof, it only closes off one potential avenue of attack.

The middleman has your info then like you said. It's a single point of failure, one data breach from deanonymization. Spooky. Crypto is the only real option or some shady deal to have another person act as proxy

Well hopefully those dbs are encrypted but yes nothing is perfect.

If doxing means nothing to you post your full name and address and a picture of your face, right now.

Once it's out, it's out. My vet got fired because he had a serial stalker who started hiring people to harass his work place. There are crazies out there. I'm assuming you've never seen discourse with online artists before.

Anon, you're getting doxxed by teenage girls because you drew a Cookie Run Kingdom character with the wrong skin tone or humping the kind of genitals they don't agree with. They're not out there downloading those leaked databases to see if you're in them.

It does suck on principle but that's safe enough for most applications.

What is on the internet is forever, it's a paper trail waiting to be found. Of course if you don't care being connected to your work then who cares. If a ticking time bomb is whatever then why even bother at all is my question

the reason this discussion never leads to anything on ic is because if you publicly share the loopholes they are guaranteed to be abused by idiots then quickly fixed and removed. unfortunately this has to be gatekept

stop giving a shit and live your life or learn about how payment systems work. if you can't figure it out your only hope is talking to working artists who mainly use social media for their income. though you'll have little luck unless you are a trusted friend.
