I thought about it, and researched it. No wonder. The "good" artists either were trust fund babies who can go full time, or threw themselves into it full time (quit work). No wonder so many artists disappear when they turn 20 - 23, that's when they graduate and all their energy is put towards food on the table.
80% of famous artists are from wealthy families.
It IS actually, literally impossible to make it unless you can become a NEET in someway (family support, fake an illness for gibs, find a patron, sugar momma, etc) because your brain has a finite amount of real estate and glucose it can use per day. Your willpower and focus is finite.
if you use 90% of your energy at work, and 10% for your hobby; you will be outclassed by the bloke putting 100% of his focus on his hobby. He will be able to figure out plot holes, develop characters, observe color and lines "better" than you because he can dedicate 100% of his brain real estate to pursuing art. The "normies" who have their attention stretched thin by work and kids cannot "make it" but they have a "balanced and normal life" so it's all about what you want.
I made a spreadsheet a while ago researching the top 50 indie games and all of them found an investor or private funding to work on it full time. nobody on the list made their games part time. Some of them are Minecraft, Stardew, Undertale, Arknights, Cookie Run, Genshin, all of them worked on their craft full time. If you are not born rich, find an investor/patron.
