Don't take commissions.
Don't work for the industry.

You realize that things haven't gotten worse. You just became jaded and more critical as the years have gone by and you're appreciation for beauty has waned as well.

I think sticking so closely to how the actor looked made it a little more difficult for him to do the art for death stranding, while metal gear how low poly snake, or he was doing the concept art for snake, so the was no worry about being so 'on-model' or tight with his drawings.
Otherwise, I don't think he lost anything.

Is it time for the bi-annual Shinkawa crab thread?
Anyway, you can count the number of times he's worked with anyone other than Kojima on one hand, even though he's probably been approached more than a few times. That's a lot of loyalty. Kojima probably treats him well

I don't think there's such a thing as a 30+ year contract. He wouldn't stay that long if he wasn't benefitting

>Working with a guy who literally gets blank checks for his projects
Why would he do anything else?

Considering how long he's been working on kojima stuff they're more than likely friends on a personal level.

Shinkawa clearly didn't. Especially his mech designs in DS2 are the best they have been since the ZOE games.

Kojimbo is also more or less always working on something and given his extreme autism I'm sure he still contacts Shinkawa three years into development because he saw a documentary about the finnish glassworking industry on YouTube and scrapped half the mecha designs. Shinkawa probably spends the first two years sleeping under his desk and the other two on and off tweaking shit while other character designers working for normal people would have been let go after eight months and maybe called back for a DLC later on.
