How did emo kids who drew like pic related and posted it on DeviantArt in 2006 or so learn to draw? I'm just trying to keep shit simple, not even going on Youtube to watch tutorials on how to draw because I just end up being distracted. I just really want to learn but I keep fucking stuff up all the time.

It's really annoying how women think that their "suffering" is real and that they are allowed to appropriate suffering as an aesthetic

Yeah I suppose so but I was just feeling really frustrated. I like a lot of this art, I doubt most of them had much in the way of formal training, and video tutorials would have been scarce so shortly after Youtube was founded and internet connections were still generally pretty slow. So it's inspiring in a way.

They probably just imitated what cartoons/anime were around them at the time and just kept at it, with their highest learning experience being what they were taught in grade school.
If you think they learned with anything beyond their mandatory art class your delusional and have been posting here too long. They just went with the flow. If I were you I'd be less concerned about fucking up and do the same

They are likely privileged kids who didn't go to a public school, but a middle and high school dedicated to the arts. There's schools for photography, sports, etc as long as you have money. There's one famous one in my city that I wanted to go to when I was a kid but my dick teachers probably threw my application in the trash anyway. Never stood a chance.

So the internet wasn't really required. You're just seeing a glimpse of what the wealth gap is like firsthand.

Do you think knowledge wasn't shared before the Internet? The fundamentals of drawing haven't changed since people started putting them down in an easily digestible form 100 years ago. Everything on the internet regarding learning how to draw is just regurgitated from older resources. Even Glen Villpu had VHS tapes out in the 90s.

Yeah that's what I'm suspecting, perhaps they had a book or two on drawing. I'm just being torn between approaches right now, I just want to draw what I like but I have some kind of mental block because I'm at such a beginner stage right now. Copying art feels nice hwen you're done but it's exhausting to not do original art and I keep doubting if it will ever help me. I'm now trying to draw from photo reference but I just keep getting stuck.
