What >>7635532 said. Ren'py isn't hard to learn, you'll make a killing on Steam with this art style and a VN.

i see. perhaps the VN would be a better vehicle for storytelling due to its possibility of novel-like prose, allowing the writer to shoehorn essays and aphorisms of his here and there, which would feel clunky in manga format

Not to mention the effort saved on art assessts - draw the guy once, throw some expressions in there, have him bounce and go 'mmm' whenever he speaks or changes emotion, done! You've just completed all the art needed for one character.

Compare this to a comic, where it's a new drawing every panel - you can see the difference, I'm sure.
Granted the only "VN" I've played that I enjoyed was Pheonix wright, and I think that's more of an adventure game than a VN; VN's just have a more niche audience.

i thought about this too, but it's not like each manga panel is its own illustration, either. the art is pretty simplified and it's not uncommon for them to have minimal to no background; sometimes just talking heads. the full page and double spread illustrations are when the author pours all his effort; not unlike the illustrations we get sporadically for important scenes in VNs. they're literally the same medium, really.

i haven't read much of them though. started sibahibi the other day. it feels like it was written by a mentally ill individual
