I use procreate with a second gen Ipad pro 12,9. Honestly I miss some of the features of CSP and Procreate does a shit job with the magic wand and the bucket tool. It is a pretty solid app tho.

Buy an ipad for the form factor and convenience of drawing off your desk, not for an art program. You can have csp on the ipad as well although the subscription is kind of ass. The hardware is worth it for those reasons. I personally never really got on with procreate no matter how many times i've futz with the pressure settings. I've barely used my ipad since I don't want to pay for csp twice. Maybe if procreate got on the desktop i'd give it another try.

I've been using both for the past few months on the latest Ipad Pro model, here are my thoughts. I'm very new to drawing on a display tablet too:

-CSP brushes actually feel slightly laggier compared to Procreate brushes on the iPad Pro. Procreate has a really smooth brush engine. CSP brushes just have a minimal amount of lag though, you might not notice it all.
-Both CSP and Procreate have an wide library of brushes, both default and from other artists.
-As for which program has the better brush settings, there's actually not that much difference.
-I will say that Procreate has a slight edge with watercolor and painterly textures.
-It's easier to find custom CSP brushes compared to Procreate brushes. I've had to look on Weibo and Twitter search engines for them. CSP has a whole asset store already so it's piss easy to find brushes and assets for it.
-Procreate has no shape brushes and rulers. You have to import those for some godforsaken reason.
-Obviously there are way more options for you to use in CSP like layer effects, custom effects, gradient maps, and 3D assets compared to Procreate.
-It's easier to navigate in CSP. Procreate presents itself as simple but I fucking hate how the select tool works there. No magic wand too. Shit bucket tool like the other anon said.
-Procreate is a one time buy. CSP you have to pay for a monthly/yearly subscription.

In general, Procreate is a good program if you just want to rawdog drawings. CSP still edges out over everything else because you have much more options and tools at your disposal for making art.

Incorrect. You can choose to have a monthly to yearly subscription, but there's also the option to buy a perpetual license. However, with this license you are only able to put this permanently on 2 devices, iirc. So if you're thinking about upgrading your PC over the years, you may have to buy it again. I suck at modelling. How hard would it be to ask someone to make a CSP model with this same proportions?

I'd really like it to be as close as possibly. I know you can adjust stuff like lengs length and pelvis position but there's always something that goes off like the knees being a bitch to get right.
Pic related is the ideal body I'd love to draw and a 3D model would help a lot to get stuff done.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if pen pressure settings—or any brush settings in general—come embedded in .sut files? I just grabbed Christophe Young's CSP brushes from the rentry, and none of them had any sort of pen pressure settings preconfigured. At first, I thought it was an issue with CSP (I'm running version 2.0.6), but I eventually realized that pen pressure was disabled for all 34 of his brushes (two seem to be missing).

Hey. I'm running CSP 2.0.6, and my pen tablet is a One by Wacom. I was tinkering around just now, tweaking pen pressure on Christophe Young's Pencil 1 brush, and no matter how I tweaked the curve, the brush kept on outputting solid black. Yes, sensitivity was present—the line got thinner and thicker the harder I pressed—but unlike how this brush appears to work in Christophe's videos and livestreams, it acted more like a pen than a pencil to me! I just want to get his brushes close to how they appear in the videos and streams he showcases them in. I'm appalled this is even something I have to setup for myself. Then again, I am beginning to notice a pattern, as his Photoshop brushes always gave me headaches, and rarely appeared like how he showcased them, either.

Looks like a basic Real G-Pen just with Narrow settings. Then worked on a high resolution canvas, shrank around 50% to give that look.

I wish, I've been doing it manually. Here's what I do.
You can fetch both files from the .brush/.brushset as you said, *unless* it uses default Procreate textures/stamps. Search for the files named "Shape" (for the stamp) and "Grain" (for the texture) inside the folders. If they're not present it either don't use any or are default.
To get the default textures and stamps, first you need to know which one is the brush using. If you have Procreate that should be straightforward, but if you don't, open again the .brush/.brushet file as a .zip file, and then open "Brush.archive" with Notepad, and inside search for either "jpg" or "png" to know the file(s) name(s).
Lastly, now that you have the name(s) of the file(s), grab Procreate as an .ipa file, easily findable on Google, and grab the "Images" folder, it has all the stamps and textures.

Have fun porting brushes!

for most of my early art days i've only ever used sai1 + ps cs2 but it seems i missed out on quite a lot of good software and went on a spree to try out what i could a few years back

i'm targeting for a specific version of the software called opencanvas, which is 5.5. oc is a really old series of software that goes back at least 25 years. you might know oc1.1 from kuzuvine on yt who streams their illustration process using either oc1.1 or ps cs5/6. between versions 1.1 through 5.5 it had a mixing engine akin to sai, with later versions having an ui akin to ps. i know in current day, in most aspects csp mogs every version of oc except when it comes to mixing, only thing csp has going there is having pigment mixing. in oc6 they neutered the mixing engine to shitbits and it followed to oc7.

3 to 4 years ago i remember SOMEHOW finding a torrent that was still getting seeded through torrent search engines that were apparently blasted to shit bits, i'm mad at myself for deleting it all. second best thing may be cgillust is by deleter which is oc rebranded. but iirc the latest version cgillust neo is based on the neutered oc6 which i don't want. honestly betting some oldfag lurks /ic/ and /dbag/ AND somehow kept this shit to 2025. i don't even have a desktop or laptop to test the software anymore but when i'm able i want to try it out again.

-in the bottom right picrel, the apple pencil there is 2nd gen (only says pencil) so product can't be never than air 6-7 and pro 7. i think it's 11 inches, so that leaves air 4--5 or pro 3-4-5-6

regarding upgrades i don't know if i'm the guy to ask, i only had enough funds for either ipad 11 or ipad mini 7, apple pencil pro made me pick the latter. mini is well, mini but the bezels could be thinner too when it's 8.3 inches, not many people will prefer it unless they like a5 sketchbooks.

for the mini the only 2d apps that worked like shit were clip studio paint (that saves me subscription money!) and adobe fresco (and learned the ftc lawsuit isn't the only reason why they made that shit free). bought perpetual artstudio pro instead as an alternative to csp, it's compatible with so many photoshop files and has better pigment mixing. and with savage snitching kyle t. webster from adobe, procreate can be the better alternative to fresco which is an alternative to procreate... yeah.

apple pencil pro is awesome. i draw digitally since 2008-2009 and didn't meet tilt until 2021-2022 i believe. apple pencil pro made me meet barrel roll in 2025 and this shit (usually) is better than tilt, and wacom has the audacity to discontinue the only pen that supports that shit! if you don't care about 120hz get an ipad air m2-m3 in whatever inch you desire, which you might not notice since you're using an ipad that old.
