At what point do you start funnelling from your socials to Patreon? Currently around 200 subs on Twitter and I feel it’s still not time yet. Spamming Patreon links in every post when not many people even follows you doesn’t seem that effective.

Also what’s your experience experimenting with different rewards? Thinking of just copying what the big earners do but some would probably not work for a small guy.

I just told all of my friends about my Patreon and everyone's chipping in 1 to 5 bucks which means I get a small amount monthly. I can buy art supplies with that and I'm grateful for that.

Why would anyone share how they make money from patreon lol? Especially in the same field. If anything, people would give you bad advice on purpose. There's a limited amount of money to go around.

>at what point...
As soon as possible. You can make free posts and people can follow you for free to see them. A successful Patreon is build up over time. You don't need to maintain multiple reward tiers right from the start. Throw in a few "paid" posts to convince your free Patrons to upgrade to paid Patrons. Nsfw posts for example have to be behind a paywall for age verification.
Lowest reward tier with no benefits should be $5. Don't become someone who paywalls everything.

If you are good at something you should never do it for free. I started mine my second week from a 4chan drawthread.
I'd try to be nice and keep the rewards to a single cheap tier. But consider that your Twitter followers will never pledge you because it's the site for quick free shit. Not for me giving you money.
My Twitter followers come from the people that retweet me. So mostly desperate weirdos that are into Pikachu futanari porn or Simba Lion King porn.

My rewards are exclusivity but I'm taking a break now.

You have to really brainstorm and think about what would people want to see, not what you want to see as an artist. Most people want to see that stupid shit like kyleri, or thekid_art. Or ai generated slop of insert bimbo bitch here.
If I was going to start again today you'd need to get the patrons more involved in the creative process instead of just "Hey see me draw nice picture". Yeah, I don't feel comfortable taking money from a small group of mutuals when other aren't going to contribute.

It's a lot easier to get five $20 donations than one-hundred $1 donations. Don't create that $1 reward tier. It's a trap that I see too many artists fall for. Many of them could be making 1k per month, yet they are stuck at $200 with over 100 paying members because they tried to be nice.

Nice! That’s kind of the best case of what I’m hoping for. Don’t expect to make it big but it’d be great too earn a little for small purchases.

Gotcha, just made an account and playing with it now. Was kinda putting it off since I know I won’t be getting any pledges for a while. Will make sure to mix up some free and paid stuff. On a side note, I just noticed that platform fees are gonna increase to 10% for new accounts made after August 8. Lucky I managed to find out about it now and lock in the current 8%.

Looks like my plan of hoping that followers from my socials would trickle into Patreon for the psd files of completed works won’t be that viable. Will look into some big and small earners like the ones you mentioned to see what the Patreon crowd likes. How do you promote your rewards to pledgers though if they’re not coming from your socials? So far I post in some niche communities and just hope they bite.

Thanks for bringing that up! I was actually considering $1 too before making this post. It would suck if it capped whatever I could earn in the long run.

What if you introduce the $1 tier, but as only a supporting tier? like no benefits?

Many of the $1 supporters wouldn't mind giving you $3 or $5 if that was the most affordable option. There are paypigs who will subscribe to the $100 tier if you're lucky. People who support artists have money. You shouldn't give them the option to pay less. It won't convince broke losers to join your Patreon, it will only sabotage your potential income.

I can't draw anymore after making it on patreon because everything has to be substantial and amazing. I can't doodle something for fun anymore because I think "would people pay for this" and I wouldn't so I can't expect others to.
