All my life I have drawn, not because I had a passion for it, but because I was good at it.

It was the only thing I was talented in, the only thing I got any sort of attention for, so now I'm just known as the art guy, the "artist", and that kind of just made me put all my self-worth in how good I draw

"If I'm not better than this artist who's X years younger than me then i dont deserve to call myself an artist, I should kill myself" is something I tell myself all the time despite knowing that the reason why I suck or fall behind is because of my lack of enjoyment in it.

I don't draw because I find it fulfilling or fun, I do it entirely for the end product and end product only. If I draw something that isn't pretty to look at or shows my skills then what's the point?

It makes me hate social media because all I see are these people who enjoy this medium, people who actually have a passion and are creative and consistent in wanting to improve. I'm just reminded of my shallowness, my lack of skill. I just get filled with this jealous rage, "why can't I be like them?", "Why are they better than me?".

You have less of an art problem and more of a mental health problem. It’s called a victim mentality, and unless you do something about it now, your life will not be meant for art, nor will it be meant for anything fulfilling. You likely endured repeated trauma during your younger years and have learned that you can’t control your life. I am going through the same thing because I have similar thoughts that you posted in your OP.
Unfortunately there’s such a stigma around people who struggle mentally, like people are prompted to shit on you on sight, like the raging faggot you replied to.

Detach from social media and learn to enjoy the process by trying things out for fun, not focused on an end result (hard at first) just focus on the technique you're using, shapes and colors or subject you like, can even just doodle. The jealousy is still there I'm in a similar boat but I'm enjoying myself now and as a result, my art is getting better. There will always be someone better, tons of 16 year olds better than me but also older artists who took longer or about the same. Also no one else can have the same exact style and vision. You have things within that only you can express, in your specific way. You can also play around with your style and how you express things. You have to allow yourself to make stuff you don't like occasionally, let go of perfectionism or forever be constrained to not make better stuff. It's worth it for practice and it teaches you what to keep doing/not doing. Sorry this is a jumble I never post here but something about yours compelled me

I wanna add that when I saw this my first thought was: yes you're meant for it, you're just approaching it wrong. What you're naturally predisposed to is what you're "meant for" I've found, but like the other anon got at, we can have unhealthy mindsets to work at

Also try to channel jealousy into inspiration—notice what you like in their art and take note for improving it in your own. This can be painful still in situations where you feel competitive but if it's someone more distant from me like an older or foreign artist I have an easier time

Trust me, the overlap is much deeper than you think. If one thing stinks, move away from it. If everything stinks, check your shoes for shit.
Likewise, if you’re not happy with your art, it’s a problem with your drawing skills. If you’re not happy with anything (including art), it’s a problem with your mood.
From what I’ve seen a lot of artists who struggle are generally unhappy with themselves.

You need cognitive behavior therapy. Try my method at your own risk. Firstly, you want to work toward drawing because you enjoy the process. Each time you feel the negative emotions, you send your art/outcome to me @sweetsummerboi, I'll destroy your drawing for you. On your end, you delete your work file. Do this each time you feel inadequate or feel with jealous rage. Because your end product is now at the mercy of my hands. You give your control of the outcome to me, and when you do, you began to enjoy the art process, you realize how fleeting it is, you fall back in love with the process of creating your art. Because if you pass the outcome to me, and delete the work file, the outcome becomes a mere memory. And from there, you learn to enjoy the process of art making once more. You still enjoy the process of art making, you just need to change how you feel and think. And that is cognitive behavior therapy. If you pass your art to your close friends, they might keep it and not destroy it, but I will. I'm a stranger and I've done this for other artists.

er... the end result is all that matters for people who enjoy art too, its only fun if it looks good. isn't everyone like that? its only fun while making it if its coming out good, it painful slog if it come out bad.

there's no way you don't enjoy making things that look good, whatever you're making probably just doesn't appeal to you, so you don't care for it. for example its too soulless / generic or something, like you're doing something wrong, or have bad tools or have some awful crutch. something like that could make you not want to draw.

1:Do you have no obsessions?
2:Do you have depression, or has this always since the beginning been a problem?
3:has there ever been a time where this wasn't a problem for you, any at all? ie, have you ever enjoyed art?
