1. Finish your work
2. Shore up weaknesses you find when finishing your work with studies
2b. This gives your studies an actual intention behind them so you aren't just going through the motions of drawing
3. Repeat, challenging yourself with every new piece - i+1 method

Hiding thread for the inevitable crab theorycrafting nonsense

Yes, you don't need to draw at all. Just hoard material to study. You'll have all the knowledge and to will theoretically be the greatest artist in the world as long as you don't attempt to actualize it by drawing anything. Then you can get down to any artist's real passion. Shitposting.

Loomis books are the secret to get good.
>David Finch recs it
>Jim Lee recs it
>Alex Ross worships him
>Manga artist on Youtube recs it
>Fujimoto shows it on his manga bout drawing
>Pro anime animators rec it on Animator Dormitory youtube channel
>Kunikata (anime animator) recs it on Yahoo Japan
>Twitter/X anime animators show photos of his books on their timelines
>Tonari animation animators used his books to train rookie animators
>Ryan Ottley (Invincible comic artist) recs it on his Tumblr
>Roger Cruz (X-men artist) learned to draw from his books in the 90s
There's plenty of other pro artists that rec Loomis and they're from all over the world, so not reading Loomis is why Cavemen didn't make it 10000 years ago and why Renaissance painters are /BEG/

I want to add "generally being engrossed in what you are doing, and making conscious decisions".

It's easy, especially once you do have a certain level of experience, to go on autopilot, which makes it difficult to improve. But if you are thinking of something other than what you are doing, it becomes basically impossible to preform at the level of your ability, let alone push yourself and improve.

Do you have a grasp on how your mind processes information? Certain methods of โ€œdrawingโ€ or visualization may not work for you the same as it works for others.

Once you figure that out consciously or unconsciously drawing will become easier. I enjoy sculpting more than drawing so my drawings gravitate towards how the subject sits in the physical space. Graphic artists have a different way of processing. Comic artists have a different way of processing, ect ect.

You have to figure it out. Once again being around other artists will help.

After that when they're /ADV/ they can read CI and EOTP and become a God of art like Loomis-Sensei.
